Job Description
Senior Staff Software Engineer – LLM Products
We are seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to drive our LLM products and play a key technical leadership role within our engineering organization. This role extends beyond delivering medium-sized projects—it involves influencing technical vision, shaping architecture for large-scale initiatives, and mentoring senior engineers to enhance overall team performance.
As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will design and build scalable systems that support data collection platforms, human operations, and research initiatives. You will collaborate closely with engineering leadership to define best practices and long-term strategies for our most critical projects.
Responsibilities:
- Drive Strategic Initiatives: Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex projects, including technical design, implementation, and production rollout.
- Define Technical Vision: Establish scalable architectures and frameworks for AI tooling and data collection pipelines.
- Lead by Example: Set high standards for code quality, scalability, and security while fostering a culture of technical excellence.
- Mentor and Develop Talent: Guide and support engineers at all levels, helping them grow and contribute effectively to team goals.
- Innovate in Data Generation: Design advanced human and synthetic data generation pipelines to support cutting-edge industry needs.
- Understand Frontier Model Needs: Align data tooling solutions with the requirements of state-of-the-art AI models for training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Engage with product users, cross-functional teams, and leadership to gather feedback, prioritize features, and iterate rapidly.
Exceptional Candidates May Have:
- Proven leadership in delivering large-scale, high-impact engineering projects (e.g., as a principal engineer or similar role).
- Extensive experience collaborating across product, research, and operations teams.
- Expertise in fine-tuning and deploying large language models (LLMs), with a strong link between model behavior and data quality.
- Ability to balance rapid iteration with robust system design.
Required Skills:
Prototyping Expertise:
- Comfortable building MVPs quickly and iterating based on user feedback.
Tech Stack:
- Languages: Expert proficiency in any backend language.
- Frameworks: Deep experience with React.
- Databases: Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
LLM Expertise:
- Proficient in prompt engineering and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
- Skilled in Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) and Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF).
Scalable System Design:
- Proven ability to build robust, scalable, and secure systems optimized for performance.
Salary Range: $200,000 - $250,000
Advantages of Joining Turing:
