Job Description

We're looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join the Retrieval Infrastructure team at Snap!

What you’ll do:

  • Lead a team of machine learning engineers and software engineers to build scalable retrieval systems (eg, embedding-based retrieval) to power Snap’s recommendation systems
  • Define the overall architecture of retrieval at Snap scale (from inference to embedding storage to the serving path) and a control plane to integrate it with machine learning workflows
  • Guide the team towards state-of-the-art vector search algorithms (HNSW, ScaNN) to improve the precision, recall and scalability of our retrieval systems
  • Work with product teams and engineers to make applications of machine learning ubiquitous to Snapchat
  • Hire, grow and retain high-performing team members

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience setting the direction for teams focused on improving retrieval, embeddings, or ranking models
  • Background with building high availability and mission critical systems
  • Understanding of machine learning approaches, algorithms and their application to recommender systems
  • Strong management and mentorship skills, fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Ability to lead and execute large, complex technical initiatives

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in a technical field such as Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience working in software engineering
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Experience with building and maintaining mission-critical and highly-available global systems

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC):

The base salary range for this position is $229,000-$343,000 annually.

Zone B:

The base salary range for this position is $218,000-$326,000 annually.

Zone C:

The base salary range for this position is $195,000-$292,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
