Fluence is seeking a strategic and innovative Senior Director Engineering and Data Science - Mosaic lead our software engineering and data ops teams in the development of cutting-edge AI-based auto-bidding solutions. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for setting the vision and strategic direction across our software engineering and data science divisions, ensuring that all initiatives are closely aligned with business objectives and the evolving needs of the market.

Your leadership will be essential in shaping architectural and design decisions that drive the efficiency and effectiveness of our solutions. You will optimize operational performance to facilitate the rapid release of new features, enhancing our current offerings while positioning us for swift entry into new markets. By fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, you will empower your teams to push the boundaries of what’s possible, leveraging advanced technologies to deliver exceptional value to our customers.

In this role you will collaborate closely with executive leadership, product management, shared functions such as Enterprise Architecture group, DevOps, offshore engineering teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives. In addition, you will champion best practices in software development and data science, by promoting a culture of continuous improvement and high performance as well as being hands-on in day-to-day development and data science activities. By mentoring and developing leaders within your teams, you will cultivate a diverse talent pool that is equipped to tackle the challenges of the rapidly changing energy landscape.

As the Senior Director Engineering and Data Science at Fluence, you will:

• Strategic Engineering Leadership: Develop, communicate and execute a clear vision for Mosaic engineering and data science that aligns with organizational goals, focusing on innovation and market responsiveness.

• Team Development: Mentor and coach your direct reports, fostering their growth as leaders and promoting a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation and high performance within their teams.

• Best Practices Implementation: Establish and promote engineering and data science best practices, ensuring that teams adhere to the highest standards of software development, cybersecurity, and operational excellence.

• Talent Acquisition and Management: Identify skill gaps within the teams and actively participate in recruitment efforts to build a diverse and talented workforce, ensuring alignment with future business needs.

• Performance Monitoring: Define and track key performance metrics for software and data science projects, ensuring continuous improvement and effective communication of results to stakeholders.

• Market Awareness: Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies in energy markets, incorporating relevant advancements into team initiatives and strategies.

What will you bring to Fluence?

• Experience: 10+ years of experience in cloud-based software development, data science, and engineering leadership, with a strong track record of building and managing high-performing teams.

• Energy Markets: Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and market dynamics in the energy sector.

• Agile Methodologies: Proficient in Agile methods, including Scrum.

• Software Product Development: Expertise in all aspects of the software development life cycle.

• Machine learning and optimization: Familiarity with optimization and machine learning techniques and applications, particularly in the context of energy markets.

• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead diverse teams, mentor emerging leaders, and cultivate a culture of inclusivity and collaboration.

Education:

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Operations Research (STEM fields)
