What you will be doing

We are seeking an accomplished leader to serve as the Senior Director AI Engineering. In this role, you will lead a team of data scientists and engineers, overseeing the development and management of machine learning models and large language model applications. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge and experience in data science and artificial intelligence, particularly within the retail industry. This position requires a collaborative leader with strong communication skills and high emotional intelligence, capable of thriving in a matrixed organization. You will report directly to the Group VP of Data & AI in Technology.

The position will be based in Pleasanton, CA or Plano, TX 

Main responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of AI/ML engineers to build and deploy machine learning models using an AIOps-focused approach
• Hands on contribution to the design, model development/evaluation, and implementation, especially in the early stages of the team formation
• Provide strategic thought leadership on artificial intelligence, working closely with Technology and Product teams to define, evaluate, and implement potential solutions
• Assess external opportunities to enhance internal capabilities, understanding the tradeoffs between internal and external solutions
• Develop AI/ML opportunity roadmaps to improve delivery against key performance indicators
• Collaborate with key stakeholders and cross-functional partners across Albertsons to ensure alignment and drive initiatives forward
• Build and grow a strong AI/ML engineering team
• Advocate for the ethical and responsible use of AI throughout the organization.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both technical and non-technical.

The salary range is $ 218,900 to $ 297,380 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.

What we are searching for 

• Experience in working on large scale AI/ML/Data systems.
• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics or related fields
• 15+ years of experience in Data, ML & AI.
• Strong academic credentials with publications in top-tier journals and conferences
• Background in one or more of the following areas: deep learning, information retrieval, knowledge graph, natural language processing, optimization
• Experience in building large scale AI models and systems
• Experience in large language models and deep neural network solutions
• Demonstrated ability to work with peers in engineering across teams to set technical directions
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
