This lead data scientist in the capacity of Regional Analytics Centre-of-Expertise (CoE) reports into the Head of Revenue Generation, Asia. The role is critical and responsible for leading Regional and BU level analytics solution development to support Revenue Generation stream. The role supports business growth across all distribution channels (Agency, Banca, Direct Marketing, and digital direct business) by

  • Leveraging data and advanced analytics techniques based on in-depth understanding of insurance business,
  • Transforming analytical insights and solutions into business actions with measurable benefits, and
  • Empower distributors with AI & Analytical insights to make data-assisted decisions

Integrating them into workflow process

The role also supports to delivery of the Asia VEA (Value Enabled by Analytics) and developing a robust, revenue generating, world class analytics.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Effective communication skills to influence key stakeholders in adopting analytical solutions and ability to communicate with local executives
  • Strong knowledge of the business and understanding of the overall picture; able to leverage expertise and experience to develop business case to defend logic
  • Ability to create strong internal network at all levels of organization
  • Strong ability to present strategic business cases and translate strategy into actions
  • University degree in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, computer science, mathematics, economics, or operations research
  • 8+ years of experience in Advanced Analytics, preferably within the retail financial services industry, prior experience in insurance domain is a huge plus
  • Hands-on experience of multivariate analysis, modeling, segmentation and customer analytics using statistical techniques
  • Expert in both concept and building AI/ML models, also in using data mining languages /tools eg, some or all of Python, SAS, R, SQL or equivalents
  • Experience in any big data/ cloud solution of Azure, Hadoop, Hive, Spark etc. is a plus
  • Strong experience in deploying analytics campaigns including targeting, test and control development, response tracking and analysis
  • Experience translating complex business problems into analytical requirements and propose actionable solutions based on internal and external best practice.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to persuade a wide range of colleagues
  • Ability to lead and build an initiative from scratch and to handle high level of ambiguity
  • Able to maintain strong, productive relationships with stakeholders and external partners

On the job you will:

  • Developing advanced analytics solutions to support Revenue Generation
  • Delivery of machine learning, AA, and AI capabilities focusing on cross sell and upsell optimization (Customer Portfolio Management (CPM)) for agency, banca, DMTM, Digital)
  • Management of campaign effectiveness and model maintenance across markets, and cross pollination of best practices
  • Tracking and reporting of VEA; identifying improvement opportunities and additional business initiatives
  • Develop AI & Analytics capabilities supporting the distributors life cycle from recruitment, onboard & training, performance uplifting, etc
  • Supporting analytics data strategy focusing on data optimization/monetization opportunities using internal data, identifying external data sources to enrich Manulife analytics data base, as well as supporting data governance initiatives

Machine Learning, AA & AI delivery and governance

  • Lead the development of advanced predictive/ prescriptive models, and other analytical solutions for Asia markets to support the company’s profitable growth
  • Collaborate with global teams and other countries within the region to establish global modeling standard, governance, and a set of umbrella modeling solutions; ensure compliance with Analytics CoE standard to maintain analytics rigor and discipline
  • Establish and maintain regional/global model repository which captures, tracks and dynamically diagnose models-in-use and provide expert guidance to the in-country Analytics team on conducting advanced quantitative analyses/modeling both technically and under the right domain/context
  • Support data strategy
  • Talent management; including recruiting, training, and developing top talent at BU/Country level

Customer Engagement and Revenue Growth via Customer Portfolio Management (CPM)

  • Enable effective engagement with prospects / existing customers leading to higher new sales, repeat sales, leveraging data & advanced analytics models/techniques across all channels, eg Agency, Banca, Digital direct etc
  • Provide expert guidance to the in-country Analytics team on conducting advanced quantitative analyses facilitating effective targeting, segmentation, and identification of opportunities around cross-sell / up-sell, and marketing program optimization
  • Support Banca/digital channel expansion as well as raising sales efficiencies through data/analytics model driven targeting and personalized offer.
  • Develop customer segmentation and strategy aligning to markets proposition and targeting
  • Recognize market, product and channel specific challenges, innovatively propose the most effective and efficient actions driven by analytics solutions which balances time-to-market with analytics rigor
  • Partner with regional / BU business stakeholders in prioritizing and optimizing activities / decisions driven by analytics solutions, in a customer-centric, need-based context

Campaign Design and Monitoring

  • Guide and help the in-country Analytics team to design, develop and draw insights from campaigns – with a focus on the rigor required for analytics model development
  • Institute regional / BU level analytics result tracking / reporting capabilities, and develop / maintain regional best practices in campaign management
  • Liaise with modeling lead to deploy analytical campaigns across all distribution channels, including, but not limited to, Agency, Outbound, Direct and Third Party

CPM VEA Tracking and Reporting

  • Develop management reports to track CPM VEA
  • Identify root cause and improvement opportunities in case of underperformance
  • Escalate early risks and mitigation action points for respective markets

Develop next year business plan and targets by collaborating with markets

Distribution Analytics Development

  • Develop AI & Analytics solution that enable data-assisted agency recruitment
  • Support distribution segmentation and solutions that increase sales productivity and effectiveness
  • Partner with RO & markets distribution partners to prioritize analytics opportunities and ensure adoption and complete end-to-end tracking available
