About the role
The project will be carried out at the Department of Computer Science, in the Machine Intelligence Lab (https://www.machineintelligencelab.ai) headed by Professor Mirco Musolesi. The lab is part of the Autonomous Systems Group at UCL Computer Science. The candidate will carry out world-class research in artificial intelligence with a focus on reinforcement learning, generative learning (e.g., foundational models) applied to multi-agent systems and/or human-AI interaction.
This role is funded until the 31st May 2026 in the first instance.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (salary £37,332 - £38,966 per annum inclusive of London Allowance) with promotion to Grade 7 upon confirmation award and backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.

About you
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Computer Science (or related fields) or close to completion (e.g., the candidate should have submitted their PhD dissertation). The candidate should have experience in the broad area of artificial intelligence and its applications, as proven by publications in key conferences and journals. Previous experience (or a demonstrated strong interest) in reinforcement learning and generative learning will be considered as a plus. Experience in the area of human-AI interaction (broadly intended) might also be beneficial for this role.
