Applications are invited for an exciting opportunity to join the Research Department for Behavioural Science and Health (BSH) within UCL Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/epidemiology-health-care/). The vision of BSH is to carry out cutting-edge research and provide high quality teaching into the impact of behavioural and emotional processes on disease aetiology and health outcomes, and to implement this knowledge to reduce disease risk and improve the health of the population. There are six distinct but complementary research groups in BSH. Specifically, the position will be within the UCL Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group directed by Professor Jamie Brown.

Our research group includes over 15 academic staff, postdoctoral researchers, coordinators and PhD students and works in partnership with a range of government departments, NHS England and OHID, third sector organisations, leading health charities, and patient and public groups. The research group also contributes to the SPECTRUM consortium, the Addictions PRU and the new ESRC BR-UK Behavioural Research Hub.

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to provide academic leadership across a CRUK-funded research programme on smoking cessation, to collect and analyse data, and write relevant research grants and papers. The successful candidate will have opportunities to pursue independent areas of interest related to public health.

This is a 3-year post (in the first instance), available from 1st April 2024.

We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible. This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site.

About you

You will be expected to have a sound understanding of behaviour change theory and methods, issues of replicability in science, and state-of-the-art approaches to the evaluation and modelling of population-level trends and policies or the development and evaluation of digital interventions. You will be also expected foster and develop research collaborations with key partners and stakeholders.
