About the role

The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Approaches to discovery science is crucial to the UCL Infection Strategy, which aims to achieve transformative benefits for human health, wellbeing and prosperity. The Postholder will link research in the RDI in microbial pathogenesis, basic virology, innate immunity and experimental medicine with the world-class expertise at UCL in medical sciences, population health, computer science, structural biology and associated disciplines. We expect the post to result in new collaborations between the RDI and our partners at University College Hospitals (UCLH), UKHSA, the Francis Crick Institute, as well as with other centres of research excellence nationally and internationally. The postholder will have the opportunity to help shape the UCL Infection mission in relation to the implementation of AI, as well as contribute to the teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates. Appointment will be made on the following UCL Grade (including London Allowance/LA) depending on academic profile and level of experience: Professor (Grade 10): £79,738 - £147,172 per annum including LA. About you

In this new position, we are seeking applicants who use AI and computational approaches to achieve high impact infectious diseases discovery research. This includes applicants who work at the cutting-edge of bioinformatics or systems biology. We aim to appoint a highly collaborative individual who has or will develop an internationally competitive research programme on topics such as host-pathogen interactions, emerging infections, disease processes, pathogen genomics and/ or antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent) and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. They will have active research profile and international external recognition relevant to the field of infection evidenced through lead author publications and external research grant funding (appropriate to level of seniority).
