Job Description

As a Data Scientist within Saab’s new innovation organization in stealth mode, you will be working on large scale data problems, turning new ideas and the latest research into industry-leading enterprise solutions.

• You will be applying state of the art machine learning techniques to vast datasets of tabular, imagery and video.

• You will be part of our cutting-edge team, responsible for developing end-to-end solutions from data processing to architecture development to deployment.

• You will be embedded with the Training & Simulation team in Orlando, FL helping to design the future of ground combat training analytical decision aids ultimately serving the US Marine Corps and US Army.

• Specializes in developing methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse big data sources to generate insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.

• Identifies insights from data and metadata sources, interpreting and communicating findings to management.

• Interacts with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments.

• Develops and builds software programs, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources.

• Identifies meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers. May be internal operations-focused or external client-focused.

• The right person for this role will value staying up-to-date with how the latest research developments can be applied to our models and leverage the state of the art to design and adapt algorithms to create new solutions in the training and simulation analytics domain.

Compensation Range: $108,000-$137,700

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Requirements

• Significant practical experience developing statistical models.

• Proficient software engineering skills across multiple languages, including Python

• MS/PhD with specialization in computer science, data science, statistics, applied math or related discipline

• Contributions to broader data science research community, such as conferences or journals

• Familiarity with optimization algorithms, machine learning techniques, statistical theory

• Experience with optimization methods and familiarity with heuristic techniques for solving constrained optimization problems

• Must hold or be able to obtain U.S. DoD SECRET security clearance and be a U.S. Citizen.

Bonus Points

• Experience with Ubuntu environment and the command line.

• Knowledge of at least one of the Deep Learning frameworks, e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch

• Experience with Transformers and Large Language Models

• Published peer-reviewed research and involvement with the community (conferences, meetups, etc)

• Experience in program or project leadership balancing cost, performance and schedule; experience in providing technical mentorship to others.

• Natural language processing and unsupervised learning experience.

• Database experience.

• Experience or coursework in nonlinear/linear/stochastic/deterministic optimization or game theory

• Experience in gaming, modeling and simulation, or working in live-virtual-constructive training environments.

• Experience or high interest in ground combat training

• Military experience, including familiarity with tactics, techniques and procedures for ground combat, military communications, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems.

• Active US Government Security Clearance
