Job Description

This individual will serve as a team member supporting the evaluation of fully underwritten and accelerated underwriting programs, collaborating with the pricing team to ensure best estimate assumptions of mortality for clientsCollaboration with the data science team on building next gen tools to further underwriting transformation. This is a client-facing role offering consultative recommendations for program improvement, education on business trends and new practices while consistently bringing a data-driven mindset, and a sound underwriting philosophy to all solutions being developed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Foster a culture based on client centricity 
  • Stay informed on market trends and gather market information on new ideas and solutions
  • Collaborate with pricing managers and marketing actuaries on RFP related business in order to secure new business
  • Act as a trusted advisor by providing thought leadership to our external clients and internal colleagues
  • Collaborate with members of the accelerated underwriting team to identify trends, market opportunities and gaps
  • Evaluate results and effectiveness of underwriting requirements, such as laboratory data, EHR, MCD, etc., and provide recommendations on use and protective value 
  • Familiarity in developing or assisted in implementation of an automated underwriting workflow and decisioning process; inclusive of rules writing experience
  • Develop a feedback loop to pricing on monitoring of accelerated underwriting programs – including monitoring of program performance compared to pricing assumptions
  • Remain current on industry trends, including new underwriting evidence, program development and automation
  • Foster a spirit of teamwork among associates that allows for open, honest feedback in a respectful and productive manner appreciating diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each associate and the team to succeed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) designations or equivalent
  • 10+ years life insurance underwriting experience
  • Deep knowledge of the underwriting process, underwriting guidelines, and new available data sources 
  • Deep understanding of accelerated underwriting programs and underwriting trends
  • Experience with OCR/ML/NLP a plus
  • Familiar with actuarial tables, mortality studies and the pricing process
  • Proficiency in Excel pivot tables for analysis
  • Experience working in a team environment collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to multi-task with strong time management skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain contacts within client companies and manage external client relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in addition to capacity to listen to clients
