Job Description

Overview

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

The Hormoz Lab at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School (https://hormoz.hms.harvard.edu/) seeks highly motivated and dedicated postdoctoral fellows. The Hormoz Lab uses systems and synthetic biology to understand cellular state transitions during development, directed differentiation, and in disease. We also develop technologies to measure molecular states of individual cells with high throughput. For example, we have recently engineered mice with molecular recorders that write each cell's lineage history in its own genome.

Responsibilities

We seek both theorists and experimentalists. If you have a background in machine learning, statistics, or physics and have a desire to learn biology, you would be a great candidate. Similarly, experimental biologists who are interested in learning quantitative skills and technology development are encouraged to apply. We particularly seek candidates who are interested in working with new types of data generated by the technologies that we develop in the lab. Related projects include recording and reading out of lineage histories of individual stem cells in mice and that of cancer cells in patients and single-cell RNA sequencing of bacteria. Successful candidates should have strong communication skills and be able to work independently and collaboratively on scientific and engineering problems and deliver solutions.

Please attach your CV and describe your research interests.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in biology, mathematics, physics, computer science, or engineering.
  • Strong communication skills

At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong. Cancer knows no boundaries and when it comes to hiring the most dedicated and diverse professionals, neither do we. If working in this kind of organization inspires you, we encourage you to apply.
