Job Description

Position Overview:

Pivotal is seeking a highly motivated Investment Analyst to join our dynamic team. Exceptional candidates with the relevant experience can also be considered as an Associate. This role is a unique position supporting the biotech venture capital investment team. The role will be responsible for supporting the senior investment team in evaluating investment opportunities in the biotechnology space, including conducting scientific, competitive, and financial due diligence. The candidate will also contribute to the data science and analytics efforts to advance our AI platform. This is an exceptional opportunity to work at the intersection of the life sciences, finance, and technology.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct investment research, analysis, and due diligence on new and existing biotech investment opportunities.
• Develop investment recommendation memos and present findings to the investment team.
• Conduct scientific and financial due diligence, including interpreting scientific publications and medical conference presentations.
• Build, update, and maintain financial models for investment opportunities.
• Work closely with investment partners, scientific advisors, and key opinion leaders to develop insights.
• Collaborate with investment members, researchers, data scientists, and software engineers to develop an AI and analytics platform.
• Contribute to the development on AI algorithms and models.
• Benchmark, evaluate, and document the performance of the data initiatives and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university is required.
• 1 - 3 years of experience in finance at an investment bank (buy or sell side), hedge fund, venture, or private equity firm. Experience in biotech consulting or a related field also considered. Focus should ideally be in the biotechnology sector, but highly qualified candidates from other disciplines will also be considered.
• Knowledge of the drug development process.
• Competency in data analysis, financial modeling, and statistics.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong work ethic, detail-oriented, and a passion for learning.
• Strong research, writing, and analytical capabilities.
• Self-starter who is comfortable working with ambiguity.
• Detail-oriented with strong project management skills.
• Willingness to perform duties outside of the job description as part of a dynamic team.

Preferred qualifications (not required):

• Basic data science competency, ideally including experience with coding (python, etc.), machine learning, and/or large language modeling.
• Advanced Excel skills.
