Job Description

The Role 

The Data Visualization and Analytics role will combine both “art” and “science” expertise to design an enterprise-wide portfolio of stylistically and functionally consistent data visualization systems. Working with biological, financial, people, and corporate data, design effective front-ends and visualizations that are efficient at querying the underlying data stores, AI models, responsive to user input, and of clear value to business stakeholders as measured through adoption. This role blends well-designed visualization with data analysis expertise to accelerate our data-driven transformation journey to move from “data checking decisions” to “data making decisions.” 

In this role, you will: 

• Own a set of data visualizations stemming from biological, clinical, and financial data that may need to be continuously evolved to increase level of sophistication and/or answer new business questions, but remain simple to use 
• Partner with Data Science and Investment teams to design the user interface and user experience to uncover insights, surface AI model outcomes, and accelerate meeting investment goals in the life science space 

• Use your storytelling and data visualization skills to enhance the value of our data. Empower users to interact with that data to provide insights to our investment teams from complex data sets. 
• Help set the standard for storytelling with interactive data visualization tools, practices, and communications methods 
• Demonstrate the business savviness and stakeholder management skills to juggle against multiple, often competing priorities, to deliver maximum value 
• Design, as needed, for multiple levels of seniority from business analysts to C-level executives, with a flair for extracting “stories” or “insights” from the data 

• Apply world-class design skills to enable ease-of-use and simplicity; success judged through adoption/usage which this role will be responsible to track 
• Stay abreast of emerging business intelligence trends, technologies, AI, tools, and approaches 
• Be comfortable working both top-down in terms of a specific hypothesis/questions to answer as well as bottom-up exploratory approaches 
• Implement appropriate views or filters to ensure display of any sensitive data is enabled only for the targeted audiences 

Competencies 

• 5+ years of relevant experience working within analytics, product management, data engineering, UX Design or a similar role 
• A bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in either information science/visualization, or a related field, Graphic Design, User Experience, Illustration, Medical Informatics, Medical illustration, journalism from an accredited four-year institution 
• Demonstrated expertise with data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Figma) preferred 
• Understanding of fundamental design principles (typography, layout, grid systems, hierarchy, color, composition), prototyping, and wireframing 
• Experience working within an Agile product management environment 

• Strong ability to work with JavaScript, R, CSS, HTML5, and/or d3.js 
• Nice to have - Ability to clean and analyzing data (using R, Python, Node, SQL, Stata, or others) for live prototypes 

• Nice to have - Experience with Machine Learning and/or AI experience is a considerable plus
• Ability to legally work in the US without employer immigration support 

Additional Information 

Salary range: $165k-$185k 

Hybrid work schedule: In person 3 days/week (M/W/TH), San Francisco Headquarters
