The Data Office & Analytics Leader is the go-to data analytics partner at Welocalize, responsible for building and managing a world-class Data Office and Data Analytics team. This role is crucial in enabling data-driven decision-making by ensuring the availability, integrity, and accessibility of our data assets. The Data Office & Analytics Leader is responsible for managing the analytics engineers that develop and maintain our data lake and warehouse infrastructure, as well as a group of business analyst partners in strategically leveraging our data assets. This position reports to the Head of AI R&D and Data Office and collaborates cross-functionally with individuals at all levels of the organization (including executive leadership) to deliver actionable insights and drive business growth.

Main Duties

  • Lead and mentor Data Office & Analytics team personnel, including setting and prioritizing goals, evaluating progress towards goals, and career development.
  • Ensure that all team activities are properly managed and documented in JIRA to: Demonstrate value-added; enable accurate attribution of costs to the business; drive accountability to and engagement with the business; and facilitate prioritization.
  • Oversee and ensure the success of the individuals responsible for managing Welocalize’s data lake and data warehouse infrastructure (currently utilizing AWS Redshift and Matillion).
  • Oversee and ensure the success of data analysts who interface with and support the business, working closely with business stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver actionable insights.
  • Implement and optimize ETL processes to ensure efficient and reliable data extraction, transformation, and loading.
  • Oversee and manage the execution—participating where necessary—of the development roadmap, applying capabilities such as data extraction using SQL, APIs, scripting languages, and building ETL jobs/data pipelines with various third-party systems/platforms (e.g. Redshift, Matillion).
  • Ensure data quality and integrity across all data assets, implementing appropriate data governance practices and collaborating with IT and InfoSec to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Manage to established SLA's for service availability, support response, and platform performance.
  • Using a listen-first philosophy, quickly form trusted-adviser relationships with employees, including senior executives.
  • Together with the team, collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their data needs; elicit and document accurate and thorough business requirements; and translate them into scalable data solutions. 
  • Define, prioritize and manage analytics offerings that will allow employees (and partners) to view and interact with our data to make data-driven decisions; document, measure and report on KPIs demonstrating output and overall performance in servicing the organization in these ways.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to data warehousing, analytics, and visualization.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies that enhance data engineering and analytics capabilities.
  • Be a thought leader and data evangelist to drive data literacy broadly; drive a culture of data-driven decision-making within the organization, promoting the use of self-service analytics tools like Microsoft Power BI.
  • Oversee and ensure the effective management of BI and data support queues, escalating to other teams, when appropriate.
  • Maintain a self-starter mindset to proactively anticipate and address partner needs.
  • Proactively ensure that technical & system requirements are met to deliver stable and reliable solutions to the business, with clearly-defined support structures, escalation procedures, and other contingencies to address service disruptions; continuously evaluate system performance—in cooperation with IT and Product as appropriate—and ensure that the software/tools/platforms/infrastructure in place is well-positioned to scale with the business and optimized to the organization’s needs.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline).
  • Proven experience (3+ years minimum; 5+ years preferred) in a leadership role overseeing data engineering, data warehousing, and analytics initiatives.
  • Strong expertise in managing and optimizing data warehouse infrastructure, preferably using AWS Redshift and Matillion (broader experience is a plus).
  • Experience in data architecture, including solid understanding of SQL and database tech, modeling, design, data management, data security and system integrations.
  • Extensive experience with data extraction using SQL, APIs, scripting languages; and building ETL jobs/data pipelines; familiarity with Redshift and Matillion preferred.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, ideally Microsoft Power BI.
  • The ability to connect vision to strategy to action.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and inspire a high-performing team.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills.
  • Understanding of machine learning/AI, and new/emerging BI technologies.
  • Preferred: experience working in an Agile development environment.
