Job Description

Who are we?

Based in Oxford and with offices in Canada and the US, Oxa is an international startup founded in 2014 and scaling up rapidly (300+ Oxbots and growing).

As the global leader in our industry, we’re fuelled by a bold purpose: to make the Earth move better. From passenger shuttles to industrial vehicles, our operating system for Universal Autonomy™ is transforming the way people and goods are transported by enabling any vehicle, in any environment, to operate autonomously — safely, securely and efficiently.

Our technology is capturing investors’ imagination. To date we’ve raised $140 million in our Series C investment round. Accommodating growing demand from new and current shareholders, this funding is driving our expansion in North America and EMEA, and accelerating the deployment of our technology in domains where there is both urgent need and potential to scale.

This is a Level 5 Staff Engineer role internally

Your Team

The Solutions Team is an emerging team at Oxbotica that is a unique blend of technical and commercial problem solvers that have experience in deploying robotic systems in the field and solving problems with autonomy. Members of the team have the opportunity to try on many hats - both technically across the autonomy stack and spanning from writing code to white boarding with customers to find the best solution.

The Solutions Team specifies (and may develop) tools required for delivering successful solutions. The team strives to understand all parts of the system to a level in which they can present and explain each of those components/modules of technology to a customer and how it contributed to the overall solution.

Members of the Solutions Team are a dynamic and engaged group of people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, all working together towards our goal of Universal Autonomy with an obsessive customer focus.

You will initially be given technical ownership of a program to develop a customer solution using one or more components of our autonomy stack. Following this, you will be given the responsibility to lead a team to implement customer solutions utilising the full autonomy stack. This is a fast-paced, wide-reaching role that will provide exposure across all components in our architecture and requires an experienced technical leader that also implements and delivers (i.e., a hybrid technical leadership / IC role)

Your Role

  • Accountable for technical roadmap generation and end-to-end delivery of these solutions for our various customer solutions.
  • Accountable for the creation / maintenance for documenting the architecture of SW systems, APIs and decision flows.
  • Responsible for design-to-implementation of some of our solutions.
  • Responsible for coordinating, driving, and facilitating alignment meetings with the team to ensure delivery is on time.
  • Responsible for identifying and immediately addressing performance-related issues that impede commercial deployment of systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining a dashboard and regular report on KPIs that are owned by the team.
  • Responsible for collaborating with other team members, suggesting and discussing high-level approaches to solve problems, code reviews & pair programming.
  • Responsible for participating in regular stand ups, team meetings, and 1-2-1’s as part of your role.
  • Responsible for contributing to sprint cycles so as to bring in sprint activity on time, including planning, reviewing, and highlighting risk or scope creep against project requirements.

Requirements

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s / MASc degree or equivalent experience in computer science or robotics
  • Experience in writing C++ software
  • Demonstrable experience in delivery of proven systems

Extra kudos if you have:

  • Python: experience using tools to create
  • Robotics and hardware
  • Platform hardware and configuration
  • SW/HW interfacing and integration
  • The ability to translate customer concepts and requirements to a technical solution or service
  • Able to discuss a program equally well with the customer as with engineers

Benefits

We provide:

  • Competitive salary, benchmarked frequently
  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • PTO 25 days
  • United Healthcare Medical Insurance - we cover 95% with 5% employee contribution
  • 401k Retirement plan with Safe Harbour
  • Life Assurance
  • AD&D Insurance
  • Short and Long Term Disability Insurance
  • Dental and Vision - Fully funded for you and Oxa will contribute 50% of costs for dependants

The base pay range for this position is expected to be between $125,000-145,000 USD per year. However, base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as skills, job-related knowledge and location.

This role will require the first 3 months with our customers in Florida, with frequent travel to the UK and other parts of the US as we grow, so flexibility will be needed to travel. This role can be based remotely in the US.
