General Summary
The Intellectual Property – Patents Group of Alston & Bird has an immediate opening for a technical specialist with a background in computer science or electrical engineering. Remote candidates will be considered on a case by case basis for part time opportunities.
This position is for our Atlanta or Charlotte office and involves working with our attorneys and patent agents to assist inventors in preparing and prosecuting patent applications directed to emerging technologies.
Candidates will be trained on how to identify inventions through technical discussions with inventors, draft comprehensive patent applications, and prepare reports and other support documentation to assist in the management of patent portfolios.
This position is designed to provide high performing specialists a pathway to employment with the firm as a licensed patent agent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science is preferred. Relevant technical experience in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, wireless communications, sensors, semiconductors, Internet of Things, or equivalent sectors is also a plus. Strong technical skills and excellent writing skills are required.
