Associate Director/Director, Screening Technologies

Vancouver, WA 

Associate Director/Director, Screening Technologies will report to the SVP of Synthetic Biology and lead a technical team further to develop Absci’s proprietary technologies for drug discovery applications. You will utilize your experience in biologics discovery technologies, including high throughput cell sorting assays and biophysical characterization (BLI/SPR), to support ongoing high-throughput screening of hits, generate high-quality data for our AI-based drug creation, and advance our screening technologies. You will lead a team of scientists and contribute as an effective and impactful leader who runs cross-team collaborations and manages, mentors, and inspires direct reports.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide end-to-end guidance (assay development, execution, analysis, and data reporting) in flow cytometry, kinetic assays (BLI and SPR), and general biologic characterization.
  • Critically analyze and present data to facilitate antibody hit and lead selection for various discovery programs.
  • Communicate the function's strategy and relationship to the organization's mission, vision, and values; clarify the actions needed to implement it within the area of responsibility; motivate people to commit to these and do extraordinary things to achieve the organization's business goals.
  • Manage and report on performance within the department or area of responsibility; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.
  • Evaluate the capabilities of staff within the department to identify gaps and prioritize development activities. Implement the organization's formal development frameworks within the area of responsibility. Coach and mentor others to support the development of the organization's talent pool.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategy for an important area of responsibility within a function, anticipating complex issues, challenges, and opportunities and ensuring integration with wider functional strategy.
  • Take responsibility for designing, developing, and delivering parts of our research programs. Assure the plan is in accord with the goals and mission of the organization, measure progress against the plan at regular intervals and make changes in operations if progress lapses.
  • Summarize and communicate results and challenges to the organization, the leadership team, and our partners.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in a Related Technical Field
  • Wide and deep experience providing expert competence (over 5 years to 10 years) in the following areas: 
  • Experience in flow cytometry (preferably in conjunction with antibody discovery by cell surface display). 
  • Experience characterizing biologics, experience using biophysical techniques such as BLI, SPR, or similar techniques.
  • Team leadership experience in an industrial setting (2 years)

The salary range for this position is $175,000 - $220,000. Competitive equity package applies. Pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
