Job Description

The Computational Arrhythmia Research laboratory works at the intersection of bioengineering, data science and cardiac electrophysiology (heart rhythm disorders). Our goal is to use detailed data from patients to better understand disease mechanisms, particularly for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, and use computational models, machine learning and other tools to develop improved diagnostic and treatment tools.

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Data Analyst 2 to join our team. The ideal applicant will have experience in coding in python and other languages in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) of electronic health records (EHR) data. The Research Data Analyst will use NLP to process and analyze diverse data sources, including de-identified clinical records, for clinically relevant medical issues in patients with heart rhythm disorders. The applicant should be comfortable analyzing detailed data relevant to heart rhythm disorders including ECG and clinical data.

The position will be primarily responsible for analyzing clinical text data. The applicant should be comfortable with data management, cleaning, and statistical analyses. The role requires working independently with guidance from senior members of the research team, and communicating results in code, orally, and in writing to internal and external researchers and stakeholders. The position involves curating new datasets and implementing data management procedures. The successful applicant will train and update other researchers and staff on these procedures. The position requires project management skills for collaborators and assisting in the design and management of new projects.

Duties include:

  • Prioritize and extract data from a variety of sources such as notes, survey results, medical reports, and laboratory data, and maintain its accuracy and completeness.
  • Determine additional data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Design and customize reports based upon data in the database. Oversee and monitor regulatory compliance for utilization of the data.
  • Use system reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and eliminate root cause for data problems or justify solutions to be implemented by others.
  • Create complex charts and databases, perform statistical analyses, and develop graphs and tables for publication and presentation.
  • Serve as a resource for non-routine inquiries such as requests for statistics or surveys.
  • Test prototype software and participate in approval and release process for new software.
  • Provide documentation based on audit and reporting criteria to investigators and research staff.

The job duties listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification and are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary depending on department or program needs without changing the general nature and scope of the job or level of responsibility. Employees may also perform other duties as assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in data science, machine learning, coding and natural language processing would be an advantage.
  • Prior research experience in medical technology or a clinical research laboratory would be an advantage.
  • Prior experience of presenting research, and of writing manuscripts will be an advantage.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.
