The Department of Genetics at Stanford University School of Medicine has an excellent opportunity for a motivated and experienced scientist that is interested in big data management and wrangling. In this position you will work as a senior member on a team of professionals including Ph.D. biologists and software engineers developing a resource for a framework that will elucidate our understanding of how genomic variation shapes phenotypes in the human population. You will serve as the primary liaison with international research laboratories to facilitate the acquisition of the data produced by these labs and will be responsible for the corresponding data modeling and curation.
A strong candidate will have deep knowledge of high-throughput experimental methodologies, large genomic datasets, and their computational analysis in order to successfully describe these types of data. Prior laboratory experience generating genomic datasets and/or bioinformatics analysis experience to identify RNA transcripts, transcription factor binding sites, histone modifications, epigenomics, SNPs and variants within genomic datasets are desired. Familiarity with CRISPR screening techniques, single cell data and perturbation analyses is a plus. Experience with utilization of controlled vocabularies and ontologies to describe biological concepts is considered advantageous. Ph.D. in biology, genetics or bioinformatics is highly desired to facilitate the assessment of experimental details and to successfully evaluate quality control of novel experimental data. In this position you will be responsible for working with the software engineering, literature curation, and bioinformatics staff in the specification, design, and implementation of tools that integrate, search, and display experimental data.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential in order to provide instruction and feedback to members of the scientific community in order to facilitate the acquisition and description of high-throughput data, to effectively provide documentation and specifications to co-workers during tool development, and to contribute to FAQs, tutorials, and publications.
