Job Description

The Senior Data Engineer provides technical expertise, enables data analysis, and is an expert of the data generated by business systems. This role will contribute to meaningful, effective, and performant data visualizations and reports, and analyze, troubleshoot and tune performance.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide expertise in data management for the purpose of analysis, reporting, and visualization.
  • Partner with analysts and other data stakeholders to design and develop complex solutions.
  • Develop and automate data pipelines.
  • Clean and prep data.
  • Improve monitoring, automated testing, and deployments.
  • Be a resource for providing insight, recommendations, and assistance with technical and non-technical questions.
  • Monitor and recommend enhancements to the technical architecture to keep pace with changing business demands and scale.
  • Stay informed of technology industry trends and solutions with ability to analyze for possible application in our environment.
  • Work with Information Technology management and staff to develop and maintain standards, processes, and documentation.
  • Promote the role and capabilities of IT to enhance the professional development of all staff through example, recommendation, and accommodation.
  • Work independently with little oversight and direction.
  • Special projects as business needs require.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or Engineering; or High School Diploma/General Education Degree and 12 years of relevant experience as outlined in the essential duties in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 8+ years of experience in data and/or software engineering or related field as outlined in the essential duties. 
  • Demonstrated expert experience querying disparate data sources, including relational structures, OLTP systems, and dimensional data models.
  • Demonstrated expert experience working with SQL for data exploration, debugging, and performant data access.
  • Demonstrated expert experience designing and developing reports, dashboards, and visualizations, preferably including with Tableau.
  • Ability to translate business requirements to technical specifications.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.
  • Adaptable, open to change and able to work in ambiguous situations and respond to new information or unexpected circumstances.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to operate in a cross cultural and complex matrix environment, and ability to build consensus across functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within an Agile development environment and strong understanding of the Agile framework.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Snowflake or other cloud database systems.
  • Experience with Python development.
  • Experience working in life sciences, biotechnology, or related industry.
  • Experience with or knowledge of Cloud Infrastructure services (i.e., AWS, SQS, S3, and GitLab).
  • Experience using Agile development tools; including, but not limited to, JIRA, Confluence, and Matillion DDL repository.
  • Experience with RestAPI development.
  • Experience with BOX integration.
  • Experience working with CRM systems.
  • Experience developing dashboards and reports on data from sales, call center, and custom software applications.
  • Experience with Tableau, ideally including performance optimization.
  • Experience as an Epic BI Developer (BID).

Salary Range: $101,000.00 - $162,000.00

The annual base salary shown is a national range for this position on a full-time basis and may differ by hiring location. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms, conditions, and eligibility requirements of the applicable plans.
