Job Description

Are you a problem solver? A connector? Someone who enjoys helping others? JMP is committed to empowering scientists and engineers via our statistical discovery software.

If this interests you, keep reading. You might just be the next person to join this dynamic, growing, and global team.

What we do:

For more than 30 years, we’ve been making JMP statistical discovery software tailored to the needs of scientists and engineers. John Sall, SAS co-founder and Executive Vice President, is also the creator of JMP. What started out as Sall’s passion project has grown -- by leaps and bounds -- into a family of statistical software products that are used worldwide in nearly every industry.

We say that great software in the right hands can change the world. We say it because we’ve seen it. We’ve seen scientists and engineers use JMP to speed new drugs to market, to design better products and processes, to figure out how to restore ecosystems. You get the idea. Advancements are made when brilliant people use JMP statistical discovery software to see what they’ve not seen before.

JMP works with some of the world's most successful brands. Read more about how JMP's customers are changing the world in our Customer Stories.

It’s spelled J-M-P but pronounced “jump.” You can remember us this way: JMP users don’t jump to conclusions; they spring into action.

Why JMP:

Looking for *that* internship? The game-changing one that’ll help you learn, grow, and chart your path forward? You’ll find it at JMP, a subsidiary of SAS. Our interns aren’t coffee runners – they do real, meaningful work. Our award-winning internship program is focused on development, culture, and community. We’ll help you grow professionally, find (or further) your passion, and make memorable connections that last beyond the summer.

The JMP Life Sciences division of SAS provides vertical application software solutions for biologists and clinical data scientists with the JMP Genomics and JMP Clinical tools. These products are integrated solutions combining JMP, JSL and C++ to create intuitive interactive workflows and reviews for either genomic or clinical trials research respectively. Role responsibilities for a project with our group would revolve around:

  • Using programming skills (C++, JSL (JMP Scripting Language), R, Python) to build new extended applications for life science research.
  • Developing new analysis programs and interactive visual dashboards as proof-of-concept work for future features of the Life Sciences products.
  • Help with testing and evaluation of current software solutions.
  • Write community posts highlighting JMP Life Sciences applications and research.

Possible extended analysis focus areas:

  • Genomic biomarker discovery and machine learning applications to biological data
  • Correlation Gene networks analysis
  • Create unit test cases
  • Automate testing

What we’re looking for

  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do.
  • Pursuing a Master’s or PhD-seeking in Biostatistics, Clinical Statistics, Statistical Genomics or Systems Biology or other life-science analytic focused major.
  • Someone with strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Be a leader. You’re the one sitting in the front row of the class.
  • Embrace technology. You geek out over the latest and greatest!
  • Strong programming skills.

Timeline & Process

  • Applications open: October 2022.
  • Interviews begin: October 2022 on a rolling basis.
  • Internship starts on May 16, 2023. We can be flexible on start date if your university is on a quarter system.

Perks of the job

  • Work with (and learn from) the best. As a JMP intern, you’ll get face time with our top executives!
  • Free SAS programming training and certification.
  • At JMP, the Future of Work is whatever you want it to be. Want to work remotely? That’s cool. Prefer a mix of sweatpants and in-person collaboration? That’s great, too.
  • Your well-being matters, and that’s why we support all dimensions of your well-being by offering programs that reduce stress and distractions to help you stay healthy and productive. This includes an on-site and remote Work/Life Center staffed by Master’s Level Social Workers and an Employee Assistance Program.
  • We work hard, but we like to play hard, too. Enjoy hackathons, social events and other opportunities to connect + engage.

Diverse and inclusive??

At JMP, it’s not about fitting into our culture – it’s about adding to it. We believe our people make the difference. Our diverse workforce brings together unique talents and inspires teams to create amazing software that reflects the diversity of our users and customers.
