Join Takeda as the Head of Data Science (Director) within the US Medical Outcomes Research & Data Science (ORDS) team where you will be a hands-on analytics leader responsible for the testing, validation, and forecasting of value-based agreement (VBA) measures, developing and executing data strategy efforts, and leading the team that provides statistical and analytical support for US Medical, including outcomes research and post-hoc clinical trial studies. As a part of the ORDS team, you will report to the Sr. Director of Outcomes Research & Data Science and work with data scientists, fellows, outcomes researchers, and statisticians on the ORDS team as well as leaders in US Medical (e.g., Medical Directors, Scientific Directors, and Clinical Research), the US Commercial organization (e.g., Strategic Partnerships, Managed Markets, and Commercial Analytics), and in Global (e.g., Biostatistics and the Data Science Institute). This is a remote role.

How you will contribute:

This role will provide you the opportunity to be viewed as a key advisor across US Medical for advanced statistical approaches and research methodologies and as a subject matter expert who accelerates Takeda as a leader in value-based agreements, advances strategic insight generation, and identifies actionable opportunities through use of predictive modeling and advanced analytical techniques.

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a small team (~3-5) of statisticians and data scientists that conduct post-hoc clinical trial analyses, investigator-initiated sponsored research, exploratory data analyses, and outcomes research feasibility studies
  • Advance VBA methodologies, including analytic and forecasting approaches, evaluating and communicating business risk to cross-functional partners and senior leadership (VP and SVP level)
  • Establish and lead data strategy efforts by positioning yourself as a liaison between ORDS and new product planning, outcomes research, clinical research, medical directors, and external data vendors/partners to further efforts in data acquisition, data management, process standardization, and quality assurance/control standards
  • Conduct or oversee exploratory analyses and assess the feasibility of data-focused strategic partnerships with managed care organizations, specialty pharmacies, pharmacy benefit managers, and other potential customer groups.
  • Serve as analytics lead on high visibility, high impact projects

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

Required:

  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in a data-related field with a substantial quantitative and/or statistical component such as (but not limited to) Actuarial Science, Business Analytics, Data Science, Decision Science, Mathematics, Operations Research, or Statistics
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in data mining, modeling, and/or advanced data analytics projects specifically with health insurance administrative claims data
  • Strong, hands-on experience with traditional healthcare databases (e.g., administrative claims data, electronic medical records, etc.) using advanced analytics, statistical, and data management programs (e.g., Python, R, SAS, SQL). 5+ years of SAS experience is required.
  • Must have robust knowledge of the US healthcare system, including coding systems (e.g., CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS), bundled and prospective payment systems (e.g., DRG, HCC, RxHCC), and commonly used diagnosis- and drug-based comorbidity adjusters (e.g., Charlson, Elixhauser, RxRisk)

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of leading cross functional teams and/or people management responsibility
  • Prior knowledge or interest to further knowledge in machine learning techniques and Bayesian approaches
  • Experience with healthcare contracting and rebating is a plus

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% travel to meetings or client sites, including overnight trips. Some international travel may be required.

Base Salary Range: $160,300 to $229,000, based on candidate professional experience level. Employees may also be eligible for Short-term and Long-Term Incentive benefits as well. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.
