Job Description

In the role as Applied Data Scientist, you implement across stages of breeding pipelines to accelerate genetic gain in vegetable breeding across crops and regions. You apply quantitative and predictive analytics methods to optimize predictive ability for selection of traits to deliver on TPPs. You optimize vegetable breeding programs utilizing computer simulations. Furthermore, you collaborate with interdisciplinary stakeholders and contribute to the development of code within the AGS team.

The challenge

You lead genomic selection initiatives in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams focusing on predictive modeling for optimal selection of parents, progeny, and hybrids. You contribute to data mining, curation, analytics, and visualization of data sets to gain deep understanding of the crop(s) and enable successful application of technology. You contribute towards the development of novel tools, modeling approaches and methodologies to drive continuous improvement of genomic prediction workflows and faciliate the delivery of enterprise level capabilities and IT solutions. In this role, it is important to keep up to date with internal and external scientific advancements in germplasm, genomic and data science toolbox and state of the art predictive methodologies.

Your profile

To succeed in this position, you have a PhD or master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience in Quantitative Genetics, Data Science, Statistical Genetics, or related fields. Our ideal candidate has advanced data fluency and excellent command of open-source programming languages.

You have demonstrated skills in analysis and visualization of large, diverse and complex datasets (Tableau, Shiny R, Dash, etc.) Last but not least, you like to work independently, and you have a hands-on mentality.
