Role Description

In the role of Enterprise Data Optimization Engineer, you will be responsible for identifying the strategic areas where data processes can be simplified, unnecessary costs removed and operational efficiencies achieved. This will be achieved by reviewing designs and physical code, with the outcome being either improvement recommendations or carrying out the necessary changes, with an educational approach. You will produce quality detailed documentation and stakeholder reporting within data projects.

The Enterprise Data Optimization team sits in the Global Enterprise Data department, and will work side by side with the Enterprise Data Architects and Database Administrators to deliver significant change to the enterprise landscape.

You will have responsibility to ensure Afiniti’s design principles are followed at the code low level and that contributes to the overall success of the Data Strategy and Afiniti’s best practices. You will often be working in multi-disciplinary teams located across the globe, where you will play a vital role in ensuring that the delivery is consistent in quality and seamless in experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify strategic areas where data can be simplified, remove unnecessary costs and increase operational efficiencies.
  • Provide detailed data management design and data processing technical guidance.
  • Identify & improve inefficient data designs/processes to improve the quality, efficiency and performance of data solutions.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert code and solution reviews.
  • Perform technical ’walkthroughs’ of Data products/assets within the Optimization team.
  • Work side-by-side with Data Architecture and DB Management experts to ensure all solutions follow good/best practices.
  • Promote, communicate, implement and apply Data Management processes and related organisational principles, standards and policies.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Minimum 5 years of experience of designing and implementing enterprise data solutions.
  • Strong working knowledge of Databases platforms, working with MYSQL, Greenplum, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Netezza or Oracle Databases, in Linux/Windows environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Database platforms and its internal engine, storage & memory architecture/processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of using ETL/Analytical products such as Talend, Spark or Python.
  • Must be familiar with working and managing enterprise level mission critical databases with considerable size 5+ TBs.
  • Experience working under Data Governance and Data Management principles and landscapes.
  • Proven ability/experience to work with virtual Teams.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent analytical and communication/soft skills are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of partners, senior managers, and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to engage a cross-functional team towards a desired outcome.
  • Demonstrated teaching, coaching and facilitation skills with experience in influencing without formal authority.
  • Experience of dealing with ambiguity, prioritizing multiple projects, organize and follow through consistently and work to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess breadth and depth technical understanding and have the ability to put technical issues into simple terms.
  • Excellent understanding of the data architecture discipline, processes, concepts, and best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office tools such as Excel and Visio primarily.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in General Management/ Management Information Systems/ Computer Science/ Technology.
  • Relevant certifications are a plus.
