Marketing data science informs decisions across Uber's global marketing efforts, accelerating both demand and supply growth worldwide. We leverage advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, or data mining techniques in a scalable manner including large scale data processing such as Spark, Hive, and Uber's proprietary machine learning platform, and more.

About the role

We're growing our teams across Global Marketing Data Science and looking for a leader to provide data expertise as we improve the growth, retention, engagement, and brand affinity of the eaters on the Uber platform. In the role, you will lead campaign measurement globally and partner with Product, Engineering, and Business leaders to improve campaign effectiveness.

As a member of marketing data science, you will not only be able to work with data, but also help define the way marketing performance is calibrated and what questions should be asked. You'll play a big part in finding opportunity fields to help the marketing function scale as we develop onboarding, engagement, and retention strategies. You will also learn and apply advanced analytics skills like experimental design, machine learning, statistical modeling, and more

What You'll Do

  • Lead a team of highly skilled analysts to deliver projects, with high quality and on time
  • Work closely with our media & marketing teams to develop insights and recommendations for optimization made through the course of the campaign lifecycle
  • Develop learning agendas, measurement plans, monitor campaign performance, and report out on key learnings, insights, and recommendations for cross channel global marketing campaigns
  • Collaborate closely with Applied Sciences to understand the ins and outs of various machine learning models, as well as help, understand their performance and areas of improvement
  • Manage experiments and dashboards to enable observability and to communicate results to leadership.
  • Answer complex marketing questions and define new and existing marketing metrics via SQL queries to enable business and marketing owners to make critical decisions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields. (If M.S. degree, a minimum of 1+ years of industry experience required and if Bachelor's degree, a minimum of 2+ years of industry experience as a Data Scientist or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of underlying mathematical foundations of statistics, machine learning, optimization, economics, and analytics.
  • Knowledge of experimental design and analysis
  • Experience with exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis and testing, and model development
  • Ability to use Python to work efficiently at scale with large data sets
  • Proficiency in languages and tools like SQL, R, and Spark.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing marketing data and analytics teams
  • Experience with paid media (ie. Programmatic, Facebook, Paid Search, YouTube, Audio, etc) campaigns and a detailed understanding of capabilities offered by publishers including ad products, brand lift, and measurement solutions
  • Proven understanding of experimental design to help determine the incrementally of a marketing campaign; multivariate and causal analysis
  • Understanding of econometric modeling and how to apply models to measure marketing efficiency and optimize spend, flighting and mix to maximize return on ad spend (i.e., MMM)
  • Previous experience in advertising tech (e.g. bidding model, attribution, targeting, 3rd party data integration, etc) is a plus
  • Work experience in applying advanced analytics, applied science, or causal inference to marketing problems
  • Experience with big data using technologies like Hadoop, Hive, and Spark
  • Organized and have the ability to balance attention to detail with swift execution
