Job Description

Uber Eats is looking for an outstanding Merchant Data Science & Automation Lead to join the Merchant Operations team. You will be responsible for developing new Analytics assets and owning the Data Governance in the Restaurant team to make better & faster decisions using data. You will also be working on Operations projects and automate core merchant processes to help improve our platform's performance and our merchant's experience at all stages of their lifecycle.

Reporting into the Head of ANZ Merchant Operations, this operations-driven role calls for a rare combination of deep technical skills (primarily Python), creative problem solving to solve complex strategic business challenges. You will play a key role in future proofing our Merchant interactions and services

What you'll do

• Develop & Optimize Analytics / Automation Assets - Scale new and existing analytical / automation assets and/or tools to allow the business to efficiently operate and realize growth. Analytical assets include machine learning models, experiments, dashboards, etc. Automation tools include query automation, product hacks, internal bulk action automation etc.
• Use various sophisticated analytics (machine learning and experimentation) and business intelligence techniques to uncover hidden patterns and business drivers to optimise our marketplace.
• Own the Data Governance for the overall Merchant vertical (define source of truth data, collaborate with Global teams on data definition, upskill the overall Org data capabilities, coordinate knowledge sharing with all Analytics specialists within the Merchant Org)
• Automation: support Operations-led projects by building fit for purpose automated processes and tools, primarily in Python to add value to either existing processes or new ones that have yet to be created (more than just automating existing items). . This person will be challenged to be opportunistic in finding new ways to plug in!
• Project Management : manage Data Science & Automation delivery from start to finish in close coordination with key stakeholders within Ops-led initiatives
• Global alignment - Drive coordination with the other regions (APAC, EMEA, US/CAN) on automation / analytics efforts, and ability to combine and or push to a global level (either through productization, or globally run process)
• Technical Maintenance - Maintaining all previous work that has been created and ensuring timely updates when things break

What you'll need

• A minimum of 4 years of robust work experience in a startup, strategy, operations, analytics, or a variety of other specialty roles with confirmed ability in quantitative fields is expected, but we'll evaluate candidates with less experience if they meet our other requirements
• Programming proficiency in at least 2 languages, Python and SQL, any others is an added bonus.
• Problem solving - Being able to tackle issues that involve people, things, and processes by using logic, common sense and data. Identifying the root cause of a problem as opposed to focusing on the symptoms
• Business Acumen - Being able to understand our business challenges and design solutions that will make the biggest impact to our business
• Ability to take initiative in a constantly-changing work environment while maintaining flexibility and a collaborative attitude
• Good interpersonal skills that will allow you to clearly explain your work and to participate in constructive debate
• Strong, organised project management & ability to drive projects to completion in a timely manner
