Job Description

The FinTech Data Science team develops state-of-the-art financial systems through advanced analytics & automation. We develop Uber's core financial data related to profitability, revenue, and costs, and drive business insights that power financial planning and critical resource allocation decisions, as well as enable external tax, regulatory, and financial reporting (including external audits & SEC filings). We also build robust validation paradigms and frameworks for the algorithm detection and mitigation of anomalies in financial data. As a Manager in FinTech Data Science, you will utilize your quantitative, management and creative skills to provide data driven insights to further enhance FinTech at Uber. You will also have an opportunity to build and manage a team of Data Scientists, and work in close collaboration with Engineering, Product, other Data Science, Accounting and Finance teams.

We are a part of the Core Analytics & Science Team (CAS) - Uber's most extensive data science organization.

What You'll Do

• Manage a team of 3-5 highly skilled data scientists to deliver projects, with high quality and on time
• Develop data-driven business insights and work with the team and cross-functional partners to find opportunities, drive product strategy, planning, and execution
• Drive understanding of our financial systems and reporting processes, through in-depth analyses as well as the critical interdependencies across functions and divisions, and grasp the short and long-term trade-offs of business decisions.
• Proactively identify and initiate process improvements for cost savings and efficiencies
• Plan and lead complex projects including modeling for anomaly detection frameworks to proactively detect and mitigate financial imbalances.
• Define how our teams measure success, by developing Key Performance Indicators and other user/business metrics, in close partnership with Product Management and other teams such as engineering, accounting and finance.
• Be a trusted advisor to Engineering, Product Management and business leadership.

Basic Qualifications

• M.S. or Bachelors degree in Math, Economics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields.
• Minimum 5 years of experience working with sophisticated data analysis, metrics reporting and automation
• Minimum 2 years building and leading data science teams
• Expertise in Python or R
• Proficiency with SQL
• Strong statistical background
• Communication with stakeholders - ability to influence and build alignment by clearly communicating and presenting information
• Ability to understand and prioritize business goals and strategies
• Project management skills - Ability to drive projects end-to-end
• Experience building intuitive and impactful dashboards and data visualizations that drive business decisions (eg with Tableau, Mixpanel, Looker, or similar)
• Ability to deliver on timelines and move quickly with multiple teams while maintaining attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in finance/accounting
• Knowledge of machine learning.
