About the position:

We are looking for someone with a diverse background who can design and implement solutions from data. Your mission will be to develop and deploy innovative products to anticipate and mitigate the impacts of climate change and extreme weather. This position offers numerous opportunities for learning and progression within a dynamic and engaged team. We particularly value teamwork and collaboration. You will therefore collaborate with a multidisciplinary team composed of other data scientists, geomaticians, engineers, and another meteorologist.

As a meteorology expert, you will also conduct analysis, forecasts, research, consultations and presentations on weather phenomena to support the delivery of our projects.

What you will accomplish with us:

  • Transforming data into action: Combining weather and climate data with insurance data to guide Intact.
  • Developing innovative solutions: Designing innovative solutions to assess risks associated with extreme events such as wildfires and floods, using cutting-edge approaches.
  • Model Evaluation and Improvement: Evaluate current machine learning models and recommend improvements to optimize their performance.
  • Integration of technological advances: Adapting technological advances from academic research to transform them into useful industrial products.
  • Technology monitoring and integration: Stay informed of new approaches and integrate these innovations into the proposed solutions.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality of analyses and code to ensure the reliability of results.

  • Master's degree in atmospheric sciences, with relevant experience in meteorology or climate.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Creativity to develop innovative solutions and approach problems from a new perspective.
  • Skills in data science, machine learning or deep learning in a climate context.
  • Advanced programming in Python and SQL, with the ability to develop pipelines for model production.
  • Practical experience with data in netcdf/grib format and associated programs (CDO, NCL).
  • Experience with AWS and SageMaker (asset).
  • Proficiency in PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and R (asset).
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, climate projection models, or risk or extreme event modeling (asset).
  • Bilingualism (French and English) – regular interaction required with colleagues across the country.
  • No Canadian work experience required, but authorization to work in Canada is required.
