Job Description

The Role

We are seeking a visionary and hands-on leader to spearhead our Applied AI group. This role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge AI technology and practical software engineering, driving the development of innovative AI-powered products and solutions.

• Drive the productization of AI capabilities, transforming research breakthroughs into scalable, real-world applications
• Collaborate with scientists to develop novel interfaces and user experiences for scientific AI
• Lead and grow a technology team, fostering a culture of innovation, speed, and continuous learning
• Evaluate and implement a wide range of AI models, from internally trained models to commercial and open-source options, including both LLMs and specialized scientific ML
• Develop and maintain a robust AI engineering stack, including tools for fine-tuning, prompt chaining, retrieval (RAG), and emerging autonomous agent technologies
• Stay current with the rapidly evolving AI landscape, including new papers, models, and techniques
• Establish best practices for AI engineering, including prompt engineering, model evaluation, and automated fine-tuning

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in software engineering, with strong AI/ML expertise
• Deep understanding of large language models (LLMs) and their practical applications
• Proficiency in Python and experience in common AI/ML frameworks
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and GPU infrastructure for AI workloads
• Experience delivering AI solutions toward valuable products
• Excellent communication skills, able to work with stakeholders across many technical disciplines
• Track record of leading and mentoring engineering teams

Preferred Experience:

• History of shipping heavily used, AI-powered software products
• Experience with AI-specific infrastructure, including GPU clusters, LLM APIs, and model serving technologies
