Job Description
We are seeking a talented Associate Scientist/Scientist, specializing in Protein Characterization and Production. The individual will be responsible for the expression, purification and analytical characterization of proteins as part of our collaborative team in support of discovery and AI/ML design efforts. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated and hardworking individual, comfortable with routine tasks, but also equipped with an innovative mindset to add new dimensions to our processes. This is a critical role to help establish best practices and support scale up of Metaphore’s wet-lab workflows and automation build. The right applicants will leverage their expertise in FPLC and various chromatography techniques to ensure reliable delivery of high-quality protein products for varied research applications.
Responsibilities:
- Execute protein purifications from small to large scale using gravity purification and multi-mode chromatographic methods on FPLC systems.
- Establish and execute automated procedures for high-volume purifications utilizing the AKTA system, based on multiple chromatographic technologies including Protein A, IEX, Ni-NTA, and more.
- Carry out transient and stable transfections using a variety of mammalian cell lines, including but not limited to Expi293 and ExpiCHO. Develop, optimize and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve cell line development and process optimization for robust protein production of challenging proteins.
- Utilize molecular biology tools to design and verify protein engineering constructs.
- Use of biophysical tools for protein interaction characterization (Biolayer Interferometry (BLI), Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) etc.).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in protein biochemistry, chemical engineering, or analytical chemistry with 6+ years industry experience, or Masters degree with 3+ years, post-graduate experience.
- High-level proficiency in protein purification using FPLC AKTA systems, accompanied by successful and sophisticated analysis, is a critical requirement.
- Strong and demonstrable experience in transient transfection of mammalian cells, together with both stable pool generation and advanced cell line development, is important.
- Experience working in a high-throughput environment managing numerous samples and utilizing barcoding systems.
- Proficiency in working with enzymatic assays and preparing proteins and complexes for structural studies.
- Experience with antibody discovery workflows and validation.
- Proven capability in accurately executing repeated tasks with enthusiasm and precision, especially in roles involving detailed data management.
- Demonstrated creative thinking abilities, underscored by a significant drive towards innovation and original problem-solving.
At Flagship, we recognize there is no perfect candidate. If you have some of the experience listed above but not all, please apply anyway. Experience comes in many forms, skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way. We are dedicated to building diverse and inclusive teams and look forward to learning more about your unique background.
