SUMMARY
Within the NATO International Staff (IS), the Executive Management (EM) Division is chiefly responsible for the overall management of the Organization’s headquarters. It comprises the following directorates: Headquarters Support and Transformation (HQST), Human Resources (HR), and Information, Communications and Technology Management (ICTM).
The Translation Service (TS) forms part of HQST, and provides day-to-day translation to the Secretary General, the North Atlantic Council, NATO committees and all IS entities.
Under the direction of the Head of the Translation Service, and the direct supervision of the Head, Client and Delivery Management Section, the incumbent assists in developing strategies, methods and good practices regarding the management of language tools and their content.
Within a team, s/he is responsible for the maintenance and update of linguistic content stored on translation tools servers and for the maintenance of the various tools installed on the translators’ workstations. S/he responds directly to users' queries or problems, performing such duties in strict conformity with technical requirements supplied by the Information, Communication and Technology Management Service (ICTM).

Expertise Development
Keep a thorough technological watch to be aware of progress that could benefit the Translation Service. Adapt her/his competencies to keep up with developments in the IT environment, especially translation tools and AI-based tools. Participate in the training of members of the TS in the use of translation tools. Update the Service’s linguistic databases whenever necessary. Contribute to the maintenance of the TS’ web portal. Constantly seek ways to be faster, better and more effective at managing information and using office software tools. Assist or stand in for the other members as needed.
Project Management
Create and maintain translation memories, provide support with translation projects and document alignment. Respond to user questions regarding the operation of existing translation tools and assist the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) in troubleshooting problems.
Stakeholder Management
Provide immediate first-level support to members of the TS, and act as the point of contact with the NCIA in the event of breakdowns of desktops, networks or processes, and for providing an initial diagnosis to facilitate rapid intervention by the NCIA. Maintain a close working relationship with, and apply all technical instructions given by the ICTM.As part of the technological watch remit, maintain a network of contacts with the international community of translation tools specialists.
Information Management
Contribute to the management of the permissions on translators’ folders and files on NATO networks, to allow TS staff to perform their daily duties. Be tactful, diplomatic and discreet, as the job gives access to personal and confidential information.
Knowledge Management
Gather, file and update all information pertaining to the setting up and use of translation tools in the Service. Manage a library of procedures and tools settings documents made easily accessible to colleagues.
Perform any other related duty as assigned.
INTERRELATIONSHIPS
Under the overall authority of the Head of the Translation Service, the incumbent reports to the Head, Client and Delivery Management and works closely with other team members. S/he coordinates with the relevant staff of the ICTM and the NCI Agencyto ensure strict compliance with their technical requirements. S/he works independently within a team structure to accomplish goals, and takes the initiative when appropriate.

CONTRACT
Contract to be offered to the successful applicant (if non-seconded): Definite duration contract of three years’ duration; possibility of an indefinite duration contract thereafter.
Contract clause applicable:
In accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations, the successful candidate will receive a definite duration contract of three years, which may be followed by an indefinite duration contract.
If the successful applicant is seconded from the national administration of one of NATO’s member States, a 3-year definite duration contract will be offered, which may be renewed for a further period of up to 3 years subject to the agreement of the national authority concerned. The maximum period of service in the post as a seconded staff member is six years.
Serving staff will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.
