Play a key role as part of Dolby's new R+D Center in Bangalore as a Senior Research Leader in our Advanced Technology Group ATG. ATG is the research and technology arm of Dolby Labs. It has multiple competencies that innovate on technologies in audio, video, AR/VR, multimodal applied to gaming, music, professional, broadcast and user-generated content. Many areas of expertise related to computer science and electrical engineering, such as AI/ML, computer vision, image processing, algorithms, digital signal processing, audio engineering, data science & analytics, distributed systems, cloud, edge & mobile computing, natural language processing, knowledge engineering and management, social network analysis, computer graphics, image & signal compression, computer networking, IoT are highly relevant to our research.

Scope and responsibilities

The audio and video technologies developed by Dolby are implemented in billions of device and service offerings worldwide. Billions of people around the world use Dolby technologies to create, edit, and enjoy multimedia content. For us, it is crucial to understand how the technologies we built are being used and experienced on a daily base. To do so, we are investing in a comprehensive, large-scale data platform and data science effort. Therefore, Dolby is looking for a data scientist lead researcher/manager to play a crucial role in planning and executing our data science research and AI deployment efforts. You and your team are responsible for analyzing large amounts of raw data generated continuously from various systems and for building the data analysis tools and automated analytics using artificial intelligence. You will be responsible for developing statistical modelling and prediction algorithms based on a variety of data types including audio, speech, image, and text data coming from a variety of sources. These algorithms will help us understand how users engage with our technologies. These insights will be crucial to define our technology and investment directions.

  • As a senior leader, you will manage and mentor a small group of data scientist, AI optimization researchers and distributed computing researchers. You will work with your team guiding the actual work and developing each member’s research methodology.
  • You and your team members perform research, develop and apply data science, machine learning, and statistical methods to large sets of multimedia, contextual, and metadata data. This includes:
  • Develop the next generation of data augmentation tools. Mine data using modern tools and programming languages.
  • Provide state-of the art data analysis helping to understand how Dolby technologies are being deployed and used.
  • End-to-end planning and execution of data science initiatives scoping, building, testing, implementation, maintenance, tracking and optimisation of predictive models.
  • Develop methodologies and frameworks allowing for the deployment of scalable and re-usable deep neural networks.
  • Influence technology strategy with data, be focused on impact, and collaborate with other teams.
  • You work with ATG technology leaders and co-define projects needed for various global R&D efforts. Work jointly with upper management, lead resource and work allocation.
  • Maintain proficiency within the AI and data science domain by keeping up with technology and trend shifts.
  • Present information to different stakeholders using data visualization techniques.

Education & Experience

  • D. plus at least 5 years of industrial experience/Masters plus at least 9 years of experience with a degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science.
  • Experience in guiding and mentoring more junior researchers.
  • Team-oriented work ethic and previous experience working in a cross-continental, matrix organization.
  • Strong background statistical signal processing, decision theory, greedy algorithms, Bayesian modelling, random algorithms, time series, hypothesis testing, classification, clustering, hypothesis testing and multilinear regression analysis.
  • Experienced in designing experiments, defining hypotheses, and developing statistical model to reach a scientifically sound conclusion.
  • Extensive experience using statistics, mathematics, algorithms and programming languages to solve big data challenges.
  • Fluent in structured and unstructured data, its management, and modern data transformation methodologies.
  • Demonstrated industry experience to:
  • define and create complex models to generate valuable insights from real world data (large, sparse, and noisy datasets)
  • deploy such models into production environments.
  • Audio-visual data analysis.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take bold initiatives and the ability to solve hard problems, prioritize work, and make decisions.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical modeling, optimization, and software skills and ability to work with multiple levels of abstractions.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills, including scientific writing, presenting, and formal briefings.
  • Strong publication record in top-tier conferences in one or multiple of the following areas:
  • Machine Learning
  • Natural Language Processing
  • Computer Vision
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Strong communication skills and data reporting/visualization capabilities
