Sands Capital is seeking a motivated Business Analytics Intern to support our Planning & Analytics Team with data transformation, data visualization, and internal data analysis. The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, organized, and inquisitive. They will have an interest in working on a variety of projects ranging from database management to data visualization. The candidate will be able to multitask, prioritize, and switch quickly between tasks while communicating effectively with different teams.

In addition to specific data transformation and visualization projects, the intern will be exposed to and expected to support, as needed, the full workflow of the Planning & Analytics team. The intern will gain an understanding of our firm’s operations as well as industry trends and developments.

Our internship program serves to identify motivated and talented undergraduates who will gain relevant skills and knowledge through the internship. The internship program will begin on June 3, 2024 and end on August 9, 2024. This role is expected to work from our Arlington, VA office on a hybrid schedule at a minimum of two days per week in office or as directed by your manager, depending on team needs. Please know that the hybrid schedule is subject to change, as directed by our Executive Management Team, at any time.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing reporting tools and creating new processes that will enhance the team’s data collection and analytics capabilities. Current tools include Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power BI, Salesforce, and FactSet;
  • Preparing and transforming large data sets for the purpose of designing easy-to-understand strategy dashboards for senior management;
  • Creating measures and calculated columns using Microsoft Power BI’s DAX language to manipulate, aggregate, and visualize data;
  • Performing other administrative or professional responsibilities, as needed; and
  • Exhibiting behaviors consistent with Sands Capital’s Mission, Values, and culture.

Required Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Rising junior or senior undergraduate working towards a B.S. or B.A. degree in a relevant field (i.e., Business, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Data Science, etc.);
  • Possessing a high level of integrity with the ability to handle sensitive, confidential matters in a professional manner;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to produce graphs and tables, use spreadsheets efficiently, and perform calculations to process large volumes of data;
  • Experience with data visualization software including Power BI or Tableau is a must-have;
  • Knowledge of the financial services landscape is a must-have;
  • Outstanding attention to detail;
  • Experience with data transformation tools such as MS Power Query, SQL, and M/DAX formula and query languages is a plus; and
  • Superior client service skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of staff.
