2024 Summer Intern - Computational Sciences

Department Summary

In Genentech Computational Sciences (gCS), we focus on developing and applying computational approaches to answer scientific questions across Genentech Research Early Development (gRED), leveraging both classical and cutting-edge computational approaches, including machine learning.

This internship position is located in Sout San Francisco, on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the host team and other stakeholders to create workflows for model training and model deployment and data labeling
• Participate in creating CI/CD pipelines for ML projects
• Proactively share learnings and knowledge with the wider Roche/Genentech community

Program Highlights

• Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
• Program start dates are in May/June (Summer) 
• A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 
• Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
• Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required) 

Required Education:

• You meet one of the following criteria:
• - Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student)
• - Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)

Required Qualifications:

• Good understanding of deep learning and computer vision fundamentals
• Proficiency in Python and a deep learning framework (Pytorch or Tensorflow)
• Understanding cloud computing, experience with AWS is preferred 
• Collaborate with the infrastructure team on AI deployment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with an interdisciplinary team

Majors:

• Computer Science, Computational Biology, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related degree

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.
• Familiar with CI/CD pipelines, Docker and Git

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $35.00 - $45.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
