Job Description

As the manager of the ZEXP team, you have a unique opportunity to help the entire Zillow Group realize the advantages of rigorous experimentation. Our stakeholders span the life cycle, from groups with a long history of experiments who are looking to scale up and improve utilization, to groups with small sample sizes who are newly realizing their ability to unlock the value of experimentation.

You will lead a team of software development engineers, machine learning engineers, and applied scientists, with a range of experience levels. You’ll help them develop in their careers, and collaborate with data science and data engineering teams to land new features and tooling integrations. Working with product management to prioritize and ensure that the team meets its obligations to partners, you will also have a major role in developing, communicating, and realizing the long-term experimentation vision.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $205,600.00 - $328,400.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • Degree in a science, engineering, or analytical field.
  • 3+ years of management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong passion for collaboration across organizational boundaries.
  • Committed to supporting the growth and development of people’s careers.
  • Ability to make and communicate difficult decisions about priority and scope.
  • Willingness to engage in details on both software and science topics when appropriate.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with experiment design, randomized controlled trials, or A/B testing, especially for consumer web platforms.
  • Experience managing large-scale software platform migrations with disparate stakeholders.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, economics, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Python and modern data technologies such as Spark
