Job Description

As a Sr. Automation SCADA Engineer, you will plan, architecture, develop, and maintain enterprise wide industrial IoT SCADA and related systems in support of IDEXX’s Industry 4.0 Smart Manufacturing Digital Transformation initiatives. This includes Ignition, automation controls like Rockwell PLC and HMI’s, process historians, SQL databases, data warehouses, and cloud data lake like Snowflake.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Develop SCADA and MES solutions to connect and integrate factory floor machines, equipment, and devices to create and end-to end digitally integrated Smart Factory using Ignition SCADA and integrate SCADA system with other related business systems and data applications like MES and CMMS.
  • Create solution architecture, including data strategy, Unified Name Space (UNS), machine data acquisition technology, OT network infrastructure, etc.
  • Evaluate and propose connectivity options for production equipment using PLCs, control devices, edge devices, and sensors.
  • Design and customize HMI and data visualization applications to display captured data visually and graphically.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience developing & implementing enterprise level Industrial IoT, SCADA, and MES applications using Inductive Automation Ignition including Perspective, python and SQL scripting.
  • Deep experience with connecting to and collecting data from industrial IoT devices, PLCs, manufacturing applications, and databases.
  • Thorough knowledge of industrial automation, Industry 4.0, and Smart Manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of Unified Name Space (UNS) and ISA-95
  • Thorough understanding of industrial communication, computer networks, and integrating to 3rd party applications and systems via Ethernet, TCP/IP, Modbus, etc.
  • Experience working with various device protocols and interfaces like OPC UA, MQTT, Rest API, APIs, etc.
  • Ability to understand PLC logic, programming, tags, UDTs.
  • Experienced with process historians, SQL databases, time series databases, and SQL database programming.
  • In-depth understanding of IT and OT network architecture and cybersecurity.
  • Strong IT Knowledge, demonstrating ability to handle most situations independently and with minimal guidance; able to identify better practice and create improvements in methods, techniques, approaches, etc.
  • Demonstrated problem solver with the ability to provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex data-related problems.
  • Ability to manage tasks and projects through to successful completion and attainment of goals.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with interfacing middle-layer data collection/historian applications and communication to other software systems such as MES, Data Historians, CMMS, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with Data Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and predictive analytics.
  • Experienced with Data Analytics tools and software to process and visualize large data sets.
  • Allen-Bradley Rockwell PLC ladder logic programming and troubleshooting
  • Rockwell FactoryTalk View HMIs
  • Microsoft .Net, C#, Java, Node-red, and HTML programming, full stack development
  • Cloud technologies like AWS, Azure, Snowflake
  • SAP BTP and Digital Manufacturing MES platform
