Data already powers products and capabilities in every part of Ocado Technology but we’re really just getting started. The Data Strategy and Operations team was set up to ensure that we get the best out of data, and that it’s a brilliant place to work with data, AI and Machine Learning (ML). We,

  • Drive a consistent strategy around the use of data and data science
  • Identify and embed data best practices including in data & ML tooling, knowledge-sharing, and responsible and beneficial data/ML innovation.
  • Ensure that Ocado Technology can take advantage of developments in data-driven research and innovation.

What would I be doing?

Over the past few years, we have worked hard to improve the data culture in Ocado Technology. Now, we need to embed this culture change across Ocado Group, representing a significant increase in scope - and impact. This role will use excellent community management and communication skills to connect our data people across the company and expand on our existing community initiatives.

You will be the ‘glue’ for our community, ensuring that everyone working in Data at Ocado feels part of our mission and has the information they need to do their jobs. You’ll be responsible for shaping our community strategy, running our knowledge sharing sessions, helping team members launch their own community initiatives, coordinating our data knowledge hub, as well as being responsible for championing data success stories across Ocado. You’ll work closely with the Data Strategy and Operations team to bring together a cohesive community and engagement plan that drives change and ultimately impact with data at Ocado.You will be doing things such as;

  • Managing our data knowledge sharing initiatives
  • Organising team away days and other internal events
  • Using evangelism & world class communication to drive culture change
  • Drive our community champions strategy
  • Coordinate our data knowledge hub, ensuring that it’s up to date and meets users’ needs
  • Have impact across the entire Ocado Group

What we’re looking for:

The great thing about this role is that it’s really wide-ranging, and hence there’s no ‘blueprint’ for the perfect candidate. It could be that you have community, product, strategy or general business skills and want to deepen your knowledge of data sciences, or you’ve got a technical background and want to take a more strategic and enabling view of the world. We would like to hear from you if you;

  • Are a creative problem-solver
  • Have a great track-record of community building and of increasing the effectiveness and impact of others
  • Have experience delivering high profile and impactful technology-focussed events, campaigns, and internal communications
  • Can help others to ask the right questions and understand how they can use data in their roles to add value
  • Are curious and passionate to build your knowledge and expertise in data innovation
  • Are a skilled story-teller, who can tailor content and complexity to your audiences
  • Can readily build productive alliances and manage complex stakeholder relationships
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity and able to adapt your approach to changing requirements.

This would make you stand out from the crowd:

  • Experience using data in your previous roles, or familiarity with tools such as Looker
  • Specific experience with data communities
  • Experience working in online grocery and/or fulfilment
