Job Description

Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully self-driving vehicles. Our software allows our vehicles to perceive the world around them, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We think deeply and solve complex technical challenges in areas like robotics, perception, decision-making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. If you’re a software engineer or researcher who are interested in applying state-of-the-art deep learning techniques in Level 4 autonomous driving, we'd like to meet you. 

The Perception Team at Waymo builds the system that “sees” the world around the self-driving car. We conduct novel research to address real-world perception problems and collaborate with research teams at Alphabet. Here at Waymo, we have access to millions of miles of real driving data from a diverse set of sensors, enabling researchers like you to develop complex models and techniques at scale. Improvements deployed to our system can immediately impact our large fleet of autonomous vehicles.

In this internship, you’ll:

• Design state-of-the-art, multi-modality and multi-task Perception models
• Code it in Python / C++
• Train and evaluate the model on large scale datasets

At a minimum we’d like you to have:

• Masters or PhD program in Computer Science, Robotics, or a similar technical field of study
• Hands-on experience with machine learning models
• Strong coding experience in Python/C++
• Experience in data structures and advanced algorithms

It’s preferred if you have:

• Experience with TensorFlow/Jax on deep learning models.
• Strong algorithmic background
• Experience with lidar data is a plus but not necessary

The expected base salary for this full-time position is listed below. The salary will be prorated based on the number of weeks you are employed as an intern. Interns are also eligible to participate in the Company’s generous benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.

Masters Pay

$105,000—$105,000 USD
