The Professional Services and Consulting team at Iron Mountain embodies this by guiding our customers in the design, implementation, scaling, and securing of our cloud native digital content management, machine learning, and workflow solutions.

Iron Mountain’s Professional Services organization is looking for a PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT who will be responsible for all architecture and engineering quality and practices performed by our implementation engineers in a global region. In this role, you will have ownership of the entire portfolio of technical and architectural designs for our customers, leading conversations with our most strategic customers while mentoring and supporting the engineers implementing the designs. This is a technical role where architectural, engineering, communication and team leadership skills outweigh your project or SDLC management skills.

The ideal candidate for this senior leadership role will consistently lead by example and be the change agent for your team and our customers. You will combine your years of proven expertise with a drive to create innovative technology through solid engineering practices. You'll lead a highly inspired, motivated, and inquisitive team of technologists, implementation engineers, and architects who are designing and implementing to the highest standards, constantly understanding the difference between what technology our customers want vs. what technology they need to be successful, never afraid to say NO to our customers (or your team) when needed.

You will think globally while designing regionally, defining complex technology solutions across multiple industry verticals, using your outstanding communication skills to practice your leadership with our customers and engineers.

Essential Job Functions, Responsibilities, and Authority:

  • Build, coach, mentor, and lead a team of implementation engineers and architects to create architectures, solutions and platform implementations for new and existing customers.
  • Work directly with customers to understand application and cloud architectural requirements, which include functional, security, integration, and performance user journeys.
  • Set the tone by fostering teamwork, conveying the client vision, and ensuring the team is adhering to best practices.
  • Work directly with the services engineering team in your region to mature, revise and implement this work, showing technical leadership and architecture vision in your decisions.
  • Identify risks, assumptions, and mitigation strategies associated with the different elements of the architecture.
  • Provide input to project implementation plans by working with project managers to develop resource plans and optimize resources.
  • Assist in troubleshooting major issues encountered with the implementations.
  • Utilize design thinking methodologies and processes to facilitate development of solution design and architecture.
  • Identify and establish SDLC and engineering best practices needed in region, e.g., development tooling, unit, integration, performance and acceptance testing, use of code reviews, code quality assessments, branching and merging strategies, etc.
  • Provide feedback to Iron Mountain product management and core engineering team members on customers need for existing features, future roadmap items, or features developed by your team.
  • Stay current on various cloud, container/ K8s, AI/ML, content services, RPA, and BPM practices/technologies.
  • Maintain and grow your subject matter expertise in API based system integrations, Java, .NET/C#, REST APIs, JavaScript, cloud NoSQL databases, indexing services, streaming and queuing services, and object stores.
  • Identify and communicate to DevOps and CloudOps volume and performance requirements needed to scale the cloud platform. Design and implement performance testing when needed.
  • Support and promote Iron Mountain core values.

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS/IT or related technical field, or equivalent experience. Non-traditional and neurodiverse learners and thinkers are welcome.

Prior Work Experience:

  • Requires 10 plus years in Software Engineering and delivery, preferably in an external client-facing implementation role, utilizing various SDLC methodologies.
  • Requires 10 plus years of experience in design and solution of complex enterprise applications.
  • 5 plus years agile SDLC experience: XP, scrum, Kanban, SAFe & etc.
  • Experience in delivering horizontally scaled solutions on public cloud platforms (GCP, Azure or AWS)
  • Significant experience with digital content management, ECM, DAM, CSP, WCM, LMS, etc.

Technical, Domain Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies:

  • Business and Engineering fluency in English.
  • Relevant industry experience in one or more of these industries:
  • Consumer Products
  • Financial services, insurance, or fintech
  • Life sciences, pharma, or healthcare
  • Entertainment, media, and marketing
  • Engineering
  • Resource Extraction
  • Public Sector
  • Strong technical background and understanding of enterprise solutions including networking, storage, hardware, and software layers.
  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies and solutions - GCP, AWS, Azure
  • Understanding of Machine Learning and AI techniques, including usage of cognitive services and open-source models.
  • Experience with packaging and deploying software for the cloud (docker containers / k8s)
  • Experience with Identity Providers (IDPs) with SAML and oAuth2 based integrations
  • Understanding of digital content management such as ECM, DAM, CSP, WCM, LMS systems
  • Practical experience with one or more content management platforms: EnVision, Alfresco, OnBase, Documentum, FileNet, Content Manager, Content Manager on Demand, Nuxeo, Box, AEM, Oracle UCM, SharePoint, etc.
  • Proficient in the following technologies/languages
  • Python
  • .NET/C#
  • Java (especially OSGI or Spring/Spring boot)
  • NodeJS
  • REST APIs
  • JSON/XML/CSS/HTML5
  • JavaScript, (especially Google Polymer or vue.js)
  • Experience in Kofax/KTA or other enterprise scanning technologies
  • Experience with one or more cloud/enterprise indexing and search services, such as Solr, Lucene, or Elasticsearch
  • Experience with one or more NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, Couch, Cassandra, DocumentDB, Dynamo, CosmosDB, HBase, etc.
  • Experience with one or more streaming/logging/queueing services, such as Apache Kafka, AMQP, Rabbit, ActiveMQ, etc.
  • Experience with a key value store, such as Memcached, Riak, Redis, etc.
  • Ability to assist in the creation of conceptual, presentation, and technical drawings for all phases of the project
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and design
  • Familiarity with Low-code / No-code platform engineering
  • Familiarity with SaaS platform engineering
  • Familiarity with BPM Solutions
  • Familiarity with Low-code / No-code UI, workflows and SaaS platform engineering
  • Architecture / Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Cloud Architect, TOGAF, ZACHMAN) is strongly desired.
