As Senior Data Architect for the Global Energy Management (GEM) Centre of Excellence (CoE), within the ScottishPower Retail Centre of Excellence, you’ll be primarily responsible for the architecture and design of flexible data solutions to support the ScottishPower Global Energy Management business. 

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the GEM Centre of Excellence Manager, you’ll be responsible for architecture, design and subsequent successful build, monitoring and testing of the data solutions for the GEM workspace on Azure Synapse. Role holders will work with the wider GEM CoE, Retail Data and GEM business teams to capture the requirements and make recommendations, approved by GEM CoE Manager, with the aim of ensuring that data is provisioned in an efficient, reliable and secure but importantly enduring manner, in compliance with the best data practices within Retail CoE.

Machine learning (ML) models form a key part of the data solution landscape within GEM, hence machine learning and data visualisation are an integral aspect of the role. You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Strategic design of data solutions
  • Turning business problems into data design
  • Product ownership for
  • Data Architecture and data solutions within GEM
  • Delivery of the functional solutions to GEM business teams
  • Definition of the role of data solutions within the wider GEM systems landscape and systems strategy
  • Managing External Development and Test teams over multiple sprint teams
  • Managing a large portfolio of projects from inception to completion

What you’ll bring

  • Advanced knowledge of Data Architecture principals, data migration and ingestion and ideally a background in statistical analysis, machine learning and data visualisation
  • Advanced knowledge of data warehousing development, database and schema design with Unix, Azure ML, Synapse and SQL
  • Solid foundation in maintaining data standards and building testing frameworks
  • Understanding in Data Governance with the ability to implement
  • Sound knowledge of principles and practical steps to implement master data management
  • Knowledge of star schema structure & design and Kimball data warehouse design
  • Experience in energy trading product management in an IT development environment with strong data interpretation skills will be advantageous
  • Understanding of Agile development approach
  • Being degree educated or equivalent you’ll be a strong and decisive leader with the ability to process large volumes of material on diverse subjects using your extensive project management skills and scrum/agile methodologies. You’ll be quickly forming effective working relationships at all levels and be able to communicate complex issues in a concise manner both written and verbal.
