Our SP Energy Networks business is responsible for the distribution of electricity to your property via our network of pylons, substations, cables and power lines. We serve 3.5 million homes and businesses across Central & Southern Scotland, Cheshire, Merseyside, North Shropshire and North Wales.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing the System Design Major Connections and Network Planning & Development teams system engineers with high-quality accurate and up-to-date system models of the entire 33kV (SPD & SPM) and 132kV (SPM) networks, enabling accurate and rapid production of design studies and quotes.
  • Support the core maintenance of SPEN’s Power System Analysis tools, scripts and automated processes, ensuring full functionality with the latest versions of IPSA+, DIgSILENT, Plant Information (PI)/SCADA, and other platforms as required.
  • Support of the development of new network analysis tools, techniques and automated/ coded modelling processes enabling faster and more accurate system modelling of Net Zero solutions including Active Network/Fault Level Management.
  • Support for analysis and preparation of SPENs annual Line Loss Factor calculations, Elexon Audits.
  • Support for analysis and preparation of FCP analysis for the calculation of EHV distribution charges.
  • Providing technical support and advice to peers and other operational units for area of specialism.
  • Engagement with customers and stakeholders to effectively communicate the network technical and security requirements ensuring that SPEN’s position is well understood and viewed favourably.
  • Support on-going BAU activities such as Week24/42/50, data exchange with adjacent DNOs, LTDS and industry workgroups

What you’ll bring

  • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science or relevant experience
  • Knowledge and experience of power system modelling, assessment and design including IPSA+ and DIgSILENT Power Factory.
  • Knowledge and experience of software development to automate power systems assessments including python and data handling skills.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels.
  • Strong IT literacy – e.g., Microsoft Office suite, specialist engineering software packages.
