Summary

The Engineering Intern – Machine Learning works with and is mentored by a group of engineers who design and implement machine learning solutions to meet customer requirements. To qualify for an Engineering Internship, one must currently be enrolled in one of our preferred majors; possess curiosity and eagerness to learn; have strong foundational software skills; and thrive in a team environment. Engineering Interns have real responsibilities that impact actual products and help pave the way on our development path. Your AeroVironment internship will challenge you, stimulate you, and provide you with real-world experience at one of the leading companies developing innovative solutions at the intersection of robotic systems and artificial intelligence.

Position Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and validation of machine learning (ML) algorithms
  • Assist in the selection and/or curation of appropriate datasets and data representations
  • Develop documentation, test procedures, technical reports, and inputs for presentation to customers and other stakeholders
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related area of study
  • Experience with at least one object-oriented programming language
  • Experience or at minimum familiarity with basic machine learning concepts
  • Familiarity with basic concepts in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • Experience with Ubuntu and/or CentOS Linux operating systems
  • Familiarity with source code configuration management tools such as Git
  • Experience with a deep learning framework such as TensorFlow or Keras
  • Experience with basic ML libraries such as scikit-learn and pandas, familiarity with OpenCV is a plus
  • UAV or Robotics experience
  • General engineering fundamentals including mathematics, physics, etc.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties
  • Effective problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an office environment (Constant)
  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Constant)

The salary range for this role is:

$22 - $32
