Respondology is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer, Backend to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a rapidly-scaling start-up that is making a difference in the world. This role will be responsible for building our core content moderation technology and will have a direct impact on making social postings positive for their users while lessening harmful content and negativity. Remote Role: If you do not live in our beautiful state of Colorado, we are open to 100% remote candidates in NJ, NY, CA, IL, UT, FL & MA. Must be willing to travel to Boulder, CO approximately twice per year for on-site work with your team--and fun!

A Day in the Life

• Own the end-to-end delivery of large initiatives, partnering closely with Product and other stakeholders to effectively clear ambiguities and prioritize
• Lead a small team of engineers to architect, build and deploy the backend systems and services that power our core products
• Introduce new technologies that improve the performance, throughput, and latency of our comment moderation platform
• Champion engineering quality within the team, implementing best practices, standards, and processes
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team of fullstack, frontend, backend, and machine learning engineers

Requirements

Here’s what you need to get our attention:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related degree - or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 6 years of professional software engineering experience
• Minimum 6 years experience with a backend language, preferably Ruby on Rails
• Minimum 2 years experience as a technical lead for a small team of engineers
• Experience building, optimizing, and deploying large scale production systems (we process 100s of millions of comments per year)
• Experience with Postgres, or other relational databases
• Experience with AWS
• Experience with queue-based background job processing and message queuing technologies (we use Sidekiq)
• Experience with APM technologies (we use DataDog)
• Ability to be flexible, learn new libraries, refactor existing code and dive into new areas of the codebase
• Proven strong communicator and team collaborator
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects, prioritize tasks, work independently, and deliver high-quality results within tight deadlines
• Motivated, resourceful and attentive; especially for remote work candidates

Here’s what will make us call you for sure:

• Familiarity or working knowledge with major social network API’s such as Facebook/ Instagram Graph API, YouTube API and/or TikTok Marketing API
• Experience with GraphQL
• Experience working at a rapidly-growing tech startup
• Familiarity with modern machine learning architectures and MLOps
• Familiarity with agile software development

Compensation DOE: $130,000-$160,000 plus equity
