Work at Argonne is diverse, high-impact, and fast moving. In this role, you’ll develop new cybersecurity capabilities and assess cyber threats to national security. You’ll leverage cybersecurity, computer science & engineering, software engineering, and math to assess intelligence information, design models, simulations, data pipelines, testbeds, and work towards field deployments to make a real difference. You’ll join a cybersecurity research team to develop novel capabilities and conduct mission-focused intelligence analysis to ensure the security and prosperity of the United States.

Argonne National Laboratory, a Department of Energy Laboratory operated by the University of Chicago (UChicago Argonne LLC), is a national leader in basic and applied research, including cybersecurity, critical infrastructure resilience, and artificial intelligence. Argonne was born out of the Manhattan Project and in 2021 celebrated its 75th year of research into peaceful uses of nuclear energy and many other frontiers of science and technology.

Position Requirements

To be considered, you should meet most of the following criteria:

  • Experience developing new software tools using modern software stacks.
  • Experience with common data science and machine learning-related Python libraries (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-Learn, Keras, PySpark).
  • Experience working in the intelligence community in a related role.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals (e.g., access controls, encryption, common software vulnerabilities, best practices)
  • Knowledge of physical computing architectures and computer engineering fundamentals
  • Familiarity with common artificial intelligence paradigms (e.g., Supervised/Unsupervised Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Federated Learning)
  • Familiarity with alternate computing technologies and paradigms such as quantum computing, edge computing, and high-performance computing.
  • Skill in communicating technical topics and a clear and systematic way through oral or written means, with both technical and non-technical partners and stakeholders.
  • Skilled at sharing knowledge through partnering with and mentoring team members.

Other:

  • Selected candidate must hold a Q, TS, and/or SCI-level clearance, be a U.S. citizen, and be able to work onsite Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Illinois.

Education:

Equivalent and relevant experience/certifications considered in lieu of formal education.

RD2: Bachelor's and 5+ years, Master's and 3+ years or Doctorate and 0 years.

RD3: Bachelor's and 8+ years, Master's & 5+ years or Doctorate & 4+ years
