Job Description

CBS News and Stations has an exciting opportunity for an expert Data Journalist and leader who will work on data-driven storytelling and product development for broadcast and digital media across CBS News, Stations, CMV.

Work directly with CBS News and Stations’ newsrooms across the country, collaborating with the existing news, investigative and special projects teams, while also building and leading a best-in-class team of data journalists who will support original, next-generation storytelling across all platforms.

The VP, Data Journalism will build one centralized team that works as a unit to serve every newsroom, with members strategically based in our newsrooms across every time zone. A team of people with diverse skills and experiences –working as one –sharing their individual “superpowers” so every newsroom has access to a wide range of advanced data reporting firepower.

The ideal candidate will have a track-record of using data science, automation and machine-learning to help journalists find and tell powerful stories that make a difference in people's lives and communities. Must be passionate about building diverse, cross-disciplinary teams that can address the hardest-to-solve investigative problems and deliver innovative news and information products.

The ability to prioritize research and development of new technologies is a must. Release automated tools that monitor the vast sea of public data and alert our newsrooms to potential stories as they are happening – or even before.

Must provide teams continuous training and real-time support.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $233,600.00 - 292,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
