Responsibilities

Draper’s Systems Engineering Directorate is seeking a Digital Engineering Solutions Architect to develop next generation Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering (DE) capabilities for domains such as: strategic deterrent systems, missile defense systems, hypersonic missiles, space systems, precision guided munitions, and autonomous air/sea vehicles. Our multidisciplinary teams develop innovative solutions that support the full system lifecycle from trade studies, to concept and architecture design, to integration, and to testing and operation.

Draper has adopted an integrated, model-driven digital approach to solving Systems Engineering problems spanning the entire lifecycle. From early conceptual system design and architecture, detailed modeling, model-driven development, integration and testing, to deployment and performance monitoring, Draper has a rich suite of Digital Engineering solutions. For this role, we need candidates with broad interests in Model-based Engineering, and in the trinity of data architecture, advanced computing, and intelligent algorithms to develop digital capabilities such as Digital twins and digital threads for our projects. Our approach supports - the entire lifecycle, from “as-designed” through “as-deployed” - phases in supporting uncompromised quality of solutions.

Qualifications

The required qualifications for this job include:

  • An M.S. degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5-7 years of experience in MBSE, Digital Engineering and sound knowledge of formal Systems Engineering principles
  • Experience one or more tools such as MagicDraw, DOORs, MATLAB/Simulink, Python is required. Experience in integrating descriptive modeling tools with other simulation tools a plus.
  • Knowledge in interdisciplinary work spanning Systems Engineering, Trade Space Exploration (TSE), Machine Learning and Data Science
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility to multi-task and adapt to evolving priorities will be required
  • Ability to work closely with our customers to architect and build transformative digital solutions
  • Ability to create and present senior level communications for internal and external customers.
  • Some travel is needed.

Desired qualifications include:

  • Prior experience in technical leadership, stakeholder engagement and management
  • Experience in data visualization and story boarding
  • Prior experience in architecture and development of Digital twin and thread
  • Experience in design and development of Underwater systems

Responsibilities include:

  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Lead development of DE solutions to support customer needs
  • Identify relevant modeling and analysis techniques, develop or integrate multi-domain qualitative models and present results that support system-level analysis, performance trade-offs, and decision-making.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively with customers, engineers, managers, and other stakeholders of all relevant disciplines is a must. 
  • Flexibility to multi-task and adapt to evolving priorities will be required. We value continuous learning and professional growth. 
  • Execute complex assignments with minimal management direction and evolving task priorities.
  • Mentor technical staff and development teams to successfully work to deadlines
