Checkout.com is looking for a leader for the Data Platform group. Our team’s mission is to build a world-class data platform that enables Checkout.com to unlock innovation by leveraging our vast amount of data.

The Data Platform team is here to ensure internal stakeholders can easily collect, store, process and utilize data to build reports or products aiming to solve business problems. Our focus is on enabling all technology teams at Checkout to utilize data in the most efficient way possible.

We're building for scale. As such, much of what we design and implement today will be the technology/infrastructure which will serve many teams and petabyte-level volumes of data.

As Engineering Director, you will be working closely with your Engineering Managers across a number of teams and be in charge of building new teams to ensure the group product vision is realized through engineering excellence.

How you'll make an impact:

• Work with engineering managers, engineers, product and analytics to build and implement the vision for the company data lake, data warehouse, streaming, analytics infrastructure and MLOps.
• Own defining the mission, execution, morale, and code quality of your teams
• Recruit talents to support the business growing needs
• Build new domains that will be under the group ownership
• Collaborate with the Product leadership team in setting the product roadmap and engineering priorities to deliver on the groups key results and objectives
• Manage with a hands-on approach to problem solving; providing context, direction with clear expectations, leaving enough space to individual engineering leads to lead their respective teams
• Review technical architecture proposals by engineering leads ensuring relevant considerations have been made about costs, scalability, performance, resilience, maintainability, observability and testability
• Look across teams for opportunities to improve communication and knowledge sharing, remove roadblocks and reduce complexity
• Drive innovation from a technical standpoint to support business strategy
• Drive a culture of cross-team learning, encourages engineers to present to a wider engineering audience

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience in building data platforms that enable self-serve tooling for analytics and ML use cases at peta-byte scale for hundreds of engineers and end-users
• Demonstrable experience in batch and stream data processing technologies, i.e. Big Data tools (Kafka, Spark Streaming, Spark)
• Experience working with cloud-based technologies such as AWS (MSK, S3, Lambda, ECS, SNS, Glue, EMR)
• Experience in building MLOps infrastructure and working with ML teams is a big plus
• Leverage subject matter and technical expertise to provide leadership, mentoring, and strategic influence across the organization whilst building strong relationships with engineers and managers
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts and requirements to non-technical audiences
• Solid experience in Software Development, Design and Architecture
• Superb communication skills, ability to interact effectively with multidisciplinary teams
