Job Description

Engineers make million-dollar decisions every day, and they need tools that give them the greatest possible insight into their products. By offering unprecedented visibility into products, as well as AI-driven tools that highlight problems and generate quantitative data, Lumafield promises to revolutionize the way complex products are created, manufactured, and used across industries.

We are an impact driven company obsessed with providing the best value to our customers keeping their needs at the center of our evolution. Our team today includes world-class researchers and industrial designers, PhDs, creators, founders of successful startups, and zero egos. We are backed by top venture capital funds like Kleiner Perkins, Lux Capital, DCVC, Spark Capital, and others.

The company is headquartered in Cambridge, MA and has an office in San Francisco, CA.

What you'll do:

  • Disrupt the multi-billion dollar industrial inspection market
  • Define the standards for a totally new class of technology
  • Design static and dynamic systems ranging from enclosures to motion stages and everything in between.
  • Prototype your designs via in house tools (3D printers, CNC mills, sheet metal forming, etc) or send plans to contract manufacturing partners as needed.
  • Build the hardware you designed and run it through a suite of tests you designed to prove functionality
  • Analyze the data you gather to make design improvements and determine final go-to-market specifications.
  • Compare experimental results from simulation and models
  • Communicate your results to the rest of the team on a regular basis

What to expect from us:

  • No busywork. Lumafield interns work side-by-side with the rest of the team to solve real problems, build real features and work on production code that delights our customers.
  • Full-stack. No really, full-stack: we build hardware, firmware, back-end and front-end software. You can explore and dig in on a meaningful problem that matters.
  • Real teamwork. It doesn’t matter if you are a PhD, undergrad or MBA, software, mechanical or business developer, we collaborate to deliver an incredible experience for our customers.
  • Mentorship and professional development. Lumafield has a diverse team. You can learn about work at start-ups, huge companies, grad school and where and how to take the next step.

About you:

  • Have completed at least 1 previous co-op
  • Are familiar with standard CAD tools (Solidworks, Fusion 360, etc)
  • Are familiar with a variety of sensors, actuators, and electronics
  • Can propose new solutions to complex problems and quickly develop functioning prototypes
  • Can use code copied from stack overflow, a raspberry pi, and a mess of wires to create a testing setup for hardware systems.
  • Understand scientific computing systems (Python, MATLAB) sufficiently to document your work
  • Can share examples of your past work in a portfolio

Lumafield offers both competitive cash and equity compensation, as well as a health & wellness stipend, 401k, parental leave, flexible PTO, commuter benefits, company wide events and more!

Lumafield is committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, because the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. Do you feel like your skills don’t meet every single requirement listed? We encourage you to apply anyway – If you’re excited about our technology, the opportunity, and are eager to learn more we’d love to hear from you!

In keeping with our beliefs and goals, no employee or applicant will face discrimination or harassment based on: race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, age, gender, marital domestic partner status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, genetic information or veteran status.
