Position Purpose:

The Merch Accounting group is comprised of Merch Payables, Freight Payables, Import Accounting, COGS Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Inventory Research. The customers of the functions include merchants, supply chain, vendors, and freight carriers. The Director of Mcerch Accounting will work closely with leaders in Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Asset Protection in the areas for vendor payments and inventory. The director will be responsible for operational excellence and transformation efforts within Merchandise Accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 10% Keep track of metrics (KPIs and SLAs) – Keep track of metrics (KPIs and SLAs) and support the root cause analysis and help on the implementation of solutions identified for resolving issues
  • 20% Lead transformational projects defined in conjunction with other areas or teams – For this purpose, support the planning, execution and allocation of resources as well as keep the projects running
  • 30% Manage people across the different levels – Allocate resources according to workloads; Provide guidance on daily basis, keep connected and communicated with the team as well as with higher levels; Provide performance reviews as timely feedback to the associates
  • 5% Oversee the administration of financial policies – Oversee the administration of financial policies
  • 10% Support and helps in the implementation of the Continuous Improvement and analytics framework across the team – Support and helps in the implementation of the Continuous Improvement and analytics framework across the team
  • 5% Works on keeping Internal Controls framework – Works on keeping Internal Controls framework and drive the team through the compliance based on the company’s requirements
  • 20% Works through the day-to-day operation related to the process managed by the team – Keep connected with the different processes team leads for identifying resources needs, issues raised through the operation and help with their solution
  • Coordinate the interactions between the different local and offshore resources across the different towers for providing a seamless experience to the internal and external customers.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ensure that all the needs and requirements from the business are properly heard and executed by the different teams.
  • This role ensures that the daily activities across the different processes and teams are executed according to the defined standards and keeps a ‘doing-the-right-thing’ mentality for following established controls.
  • Design and bring into life a clear governance framework that provides the right visibility of all the relevant SLAs and KPIs implemented across the process, keeps the right audiences properly informed and clearly identifies the different initiatives across the towers.
  • Lead monthly reviews for all the towers with the offshore teams, addressing key operational topics, improvements and projects that require monitoring and resolution.
  • Provide visibility for the different processes by enabling a strong analytics workstream that leverages the company data and tools, giving real-time information that enhance decision making process for key stakeholders.
  • Become an executive escalation point for providing resolution to any critical issues across the daily operation. This person will define the discipline across the teams for running root cause analysis and find sustainable solutions for enhancing the processes.
  • Have an entrepreneurial spirit by bringing a continuous improvement mindset and constantly keep challenging the teams to standardize, simplify and enhance the process through different proven methodologies like six sigma and through new technologies, delivering relevant improvements across the different towers and their processes.
  • Looks continuously to create shareholder value by proposing and supporting transformational ideas and projects that makes the different processes to constantly evolve towards excellence.
  • Drive resource allocation for supporting key initiatives in the business.
  • Manage the different team members with respect for all people, coaching them for bringing up the strengths and skills that will set a successful group of highly motivated and strong performers. Also, take care of our people allocating in the best possible way the activities across the process and directly impacting in quality work-life balance for the team members.

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • This position typically reports to Sr. Director
  • This position has 2 Direct Reports

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is preferred
  • Experience with application and implementation of difference innovative technologies like RPA, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain is highly desired
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage continuous improvement (CI) philosophies and tools

Minimum Education:

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a master’s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
