Your role

As a Senior Data Solutions, Science & Engineering Specialist your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Leading designing, development and validation of prototype models built using a variety of modeling techniques. Constructing dataset procedures that can help with data mining, modeling, and production, enhancing the data quality. Developing advanced analytics model and supporting implementation of these models, ensuring data solutions align with business objectives and looking ahead to understand future technology options for the business.
  • Serving as technical expert in a specific process or product area, conducting process reviews and initiating change to contribute towards continuous improvement of services to internal customers.
  • Use descriptive data model for data aggregation to extract historical insights. Create predictive models applying forecasting techniques to get future actionable insights and recommendations, identifying hidden patterns from stored data. 
  • Looking externally/internally to research primary data sources, selecting relevant information, continually evaluating key themes in technology, making recommendations to inform policy and/or product development in own area of IT.
  • Provide support to Zurich Resilience Solutions platforms support team when required in resolving queries/errors and ensuring technological problems are resolved quickly and efficiently.
  • Develop, propose and lead the implementation of initiatives to improve processes, develop policies and support innovation in the Zurich Resilience Solutions field.
  • Analyze key themes from data around risks and loss to identify how different scenarios may have an impact upon the business.
  • Balance the competing constraints of scope, schedule, budget, quality, resources, risk and dependencies to produce the specified product, service or result.
  • Coaching and training more junior team members.

Your Skills and Experience

As a Senior Data Solutions, Science & Engineering Specialist your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • At least 5 years in a Data Science & Engineering Specialist role, ideally supporting application development in large, complex organizations.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in relevant field.
  • Sound experience coding in a core programming language (i.e. Python, Java, Scala) and familiarity with distributed computing e.g. using Apache Spark.
  • Proficient in Big Data Analytics technologies (Databricks preferred) including hands-on expertise with complex proof-of-concepts, governance and public cloud platform(s).
  • Proficiency in Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project.
  • Experience working in Agile methodology (Scrum, Kanban) and tooling (e.g., Azure DevOps).
  • Experience in project management is a must.
  • Team player who is skilled at building up and managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Good self-management skills and stress resilience.
  • Highly organized with very good attention to detail.
  • Advanced Communication skills in written and spoken English.
  • Spanish and German language skills are a plus.
  • Sound knowledge of the insurance industry, ideally Commercial Insurance is of advantage.

Primary work location is Barcelona, Poblenou. Option to telework from any location within Spain territory is also feasible.
